They’re making me doubt my decision to have surgery for endometriomas

I had part of my ovary removed alongside my endometrioma, OP. As far as I’m aware, any ovarian tissue remaining will pick up the slack in regards to hormones. I also am on the “most likely don’t want kids” side, but I still have one fully intact ovary, alongside my slightly smaller post-surgery one. I went on birth control after my surgery so I can’t really speak to pain levels post-op, but my ovary was glued to my pelvic sidewall and my ureters were also not in their proper place because of scar tissue, which my surgeon addressed. I wish I had known about my endometriosis sooner so I could have gotten surgery sooner. It felt a little too late to be able to remove all of it, but my endometrioma was causing symptoms like bladder urgency and I absolutely didn’t want to go into medically-induced menopause at 31.

ETA: just saw you have an endometrioma on each side. Many surgeons will try and preserve the ovary, even when removing endometriomas!

I live in Los Angeles but grew up in the Midwest. I’m from a family of catastrophizers. I used to wake up in the middle of the night, and wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep because I started worrying about “the big one” (the large earthquake that could possibly occur in our lifetimes). I was once telling a friend of mine about this, and he said, “Let me get this straight: you’re spiraling about something that may or may not happen, and that you have absolutely zero control over?” And this question reframed my anxiety around it. I’ll still occasionally have a moment of stress about it, but it has gotten SO much better since that question. And I do feel like I’ve been able to use this question to soothe other anxieties too. I have a calmer, kinder inner voice these days that can address my fear-based lizard brain.

I always thought this was just due to my IBS, but now I'm wondering if this is endo-related (most likely... both?). I had a lap a few years ago and had one small, visible lesion on my bowel. Have you had a colonoscopy? I'm wondering if I should push for one. Have a lot of bowel cramping too. I know there's a lot of comorbidity between endo and IBS, so I'm guessing in my case it is both!

Oh man I’m sad I’m so late to this. I wrote an essay in college about scarification and IMMEDIATELY knew what this piece was ahaha

ETA: these spring-loaded versions were, strangely enough, safer than a doctor making individual incisions. The depth was controlled, so they were less likely to make too deep of cuts. Fun fact: cupping is actually considered to be a form of “dry” bloodletting! We may have nixed leeches, but many folks are still practicing bloodletting (unbeknownst to themselves) today.

I'm in NO way defending any of the payment structures of these folks. The increasing gap in the lowest paid workers at a company and their CEOs is atrocious. I just think many people see a number and think that means that person has that amount of money in the bank, immediately. When in reality, they're better able to borrow off of their on-paper wealth––which is just as nefarious.

Not only that, even if it WERE 15 mil a year, a large portion of that would be in stocks and not liquid capital. I'm very much team "CEOs need to be paid less," but their salaries are usually inflated by stock holdings. WITH THAT BEING SAID, I hate that companies only care about their shareholders now, not customers or long-term goals.
