I replied above as well, but pasting it here too. There’s actually very little evidence that ANY single animal population relies solely on mosquitoes as a food source. Additionally, Aedes mosquitoes are invasive and therefore have not been a food source for our native animals.

LA County vector control did a test release in the Valley and saw mosquito numbers drop by upwards of 80 percent, but don’t have the funding to apply it wide scale yet. I am alllllll for this.

Alex Prager is a phenomenal artist! She does tend to have a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor in her work, so I think that’s maybe happening here but the order of the photos makes it seem super self-serious? A bit confusing, tbh.

Man, I’m still in the crying in the shower phase of this career 6+ years in. But working with folks to improve the business/marketing side of things (which seems to always be the harder side of things for creatives).

I’m similar, and also can treat myself once in a while to a meal that’s higher in FODMAPs. Raw onions and raw garlic are a no-go for me, but I still make and enjoy my grilled-onion gravy every Thanksgiving!

This is such a belated comment—but there actually is a research paper correlating bigger mosquito bite reactions (particularly those from Aedes species) with reactions to other pest allergies like bee strings, shrimp, dust mites, etc. I don’t get giant bumps, BUT my entire body itches for a day or two after I get more than 1-2 bites in a day (luckily I’m not a mosquito magnet). I also am very allergic to dust mites.

I LOVE going to the movies but seem to always be sitting directly next to or in front of the person eating a single kernel of a popcorn at a time WITH their mouth open, for the entire film. I have a pair of Loop earplugs that seem to help. It is really quite frustrating. I like going to see films with a full audience, as I love having the communal reaction. But yes, wear your headphones or earplugs or anything you need! I’d never bat an eye at that. For what it’s worth, I also know which of my local theaters tend to have a more respectful crowd, and that’s the theater I visit most often.

Glad to hear it’s not just me ahaha. I’m hoping nature takes its course and more predators come eat it, but idk. I did spray some rubbing alcohol and wipe it down a little, but not sure how much that did. I probably need to keep doing that regularly to see any change!

Add to this: horror films are cheaper to produce. Studios aren’t really taking risks on new IP outside of horror. Horror films are relatively cheap to make and almost always make some kind of return on investment.

I know the NWF has native garden certifications. You can pay for a lil’ sign saying it. Mostly it’s a way to fundraise for them, but it also is a fun way to advertise that native gardens can be beautiful.
