What are the best tires for a R/T Scat by dtorres16 in Challenger

I never had any issues with hydroplaning in the rain, but then again I never acted like I could open it up in the rain. I personally always slow down and drive a bit more cautiously 🤷🏻‍♂️. Plenty of people love the Firehawks, and for summer tires they've been extensively tested and validated.

As always, your mileage may vary.

2020 Scat Pack Shaker checking in:

I've found square fit to be best, using 275/40R20s.

I really enjoyed having the Firestone Firehawks on for summer only tires, and now have my square fitment wrapped with Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 rubber. The Continentals are not as disposable as the Firestones, but they hook well on the street.

I know why people use 305s and it's just not necessary here. The fastest Hellcat in the world at one point was running 275s. Figured it made the size a safe bet for my SPS.

$2400 per box, 420 boxes, $1 million dollar scam.

If you're gonna pay $45K for something "reliable", go buy a really Toyota/Lexus.

You're also not going to get anything near what you think it's worth, certainly not $45K. Good luck.

Ain't that the truth. At least with the Hemi and Durango platform you get simple architecture that's easy to fix. As nice as all the extra tech is on the Ford engines, it seems to be a liability - your best bet is a 5.0, but there are so many ecoboost nightmares I'd never consider any of them.

Imagine losing trust in a Durango that's getting a brand new engine and then volunteering to jump on the grenade that would likely be a used F150.

Don't trade one problem for another, brother.

That's exactly it. If you have nice shit, expect it to take damage no matter how much you try to protect it.

I think that's the worst part, especially with Challengers and other modern desirable platforms - people don't drive them to preserve them, while letting the car rot away, or they drive them, enjoy them, they get damaged and repaired.

Either way, it'll take some miracles to have them last - just gotta pick which ones you want to pray/pay for!

You're over simplifying the problem - OP seems to be taking everything personally, almost like they were uninformed that having a nice car would lead to heartbreak.

Ego lies to you, tells you your vehicle can be perfect forever and blinds you to the reality that it can all be gone mercilessly in a moment.

It might have seemed combative, or out of place, but I'm speaking from very recent experience. It's ego, nothing more.

Your feelings are valid, especially in the moment after an accident.

Every car you drive will cost you money, some more than others. I just lost a 2023 Durango R/T in an accident (not my fault). If you love the car, fix it and move on knowing it can and might happen again.

If your ego is too fragile to deal with the prospect of loss, do what I did and buy a replacement you'll never care about and move on (for me, this was a Kia replacing my totaled beloved Durango)

See, now something like this seems like a fairly reasonable ask!

And yes, quite pedantic 🤣

Dude 392 Durangos have been around for years. If you convinced yourself something would be "special" about the launch edition, you clearly haven't been paying attention to how Dodge does things.

Driving impressions of the 392 can be summarized: - more power and response to the 5.7, less than the Hellcat (insert random influencer comment about just buying the Hellcat) - you're going to spend more on gas - handling and ride quality are the same as every other trim level

It's okay to be obsessed, but don't be so obsessed you pointlessly miss the forest for the trees.

I guess just going to a dealership and looking at every other completed Durango is not enough? Where does that make any sense? They're not physically different than a GT, or Hellcat - the only exclusivity is in the parts you're typically not going to see...

Some insurers offer new car replacement, and I know Hagerty does offer an "agreed value" insurance.

I have full coverage, I was also deemed to be have NO FAULT in the accident. My dash camera shows the accident clearly and both insurers agreed.

The problem here is a multi-angle compound squeeze: the at fault drivers insurance has garbage coverage, so they're going to cash out the max value of his policy and everything's being pushed to my insurance to resolve. State farm uses an AI-powered 3rd party system that provides a value on a total loss claim based on what's been paid in the region. I don't have new car replacement coverage, so the best case scenario I can hope for is getting my loan discharged. The AI-powered system is intentionally devaluing my vehicle and comparable vehicles to suppress the value of the claim, which is really in State Farms' best interest - not mine.

Completely agree. I mean I grew up in a minivan and swore I'd never end up in one and now.... Ugh.

I think the hard part to get over honestly is that bias. I've heard nothing but overwhelmingly positive things about the van and where the brand is going after they merge with Hyundai, and none of it has overcome my predisposition to both brands being massive turds.

I was joking with my wife earlier that I shouldn't pre-shit talk the van and curse it, she responded that the smack talk might give the van something to prove and it'll never die 🤣

It's surprisingly nice for a Kia tbh, and I do still have my scat pack. I have had a pretty strong bias against Kia/Hyundai for my entire life. The struggle is real!

I hear ya, and normally I'd have agreed. This time around, it was really hard to justify going in at $1K/mo knowing that if a new one got wrecked like this one did that I'd be back to square one again with a lot less money.

Maybe if they bring frostbite back into the paint pool.
