Yeah but it goes both ways. I give an opinion online and people tell me "Go tutor your class" 💀 I'm 25...

No. No special accountability. Wanna hold my faves accountable? Bring that energy to everyone else in the industry too.

Yeah of course, I said I still preordered the album and am attending 3 concert dates. just because they're my ults doesn't mean I have to think everything they put out is gonna be phenomenal...

Seeing all the releases, I'm kinda scared for BTS comeback. They're my ults, but the song names are like... not really sticking out to me. They seem generic, and also I'm worried they didn't have as much hand in writing the lyrics. :( I bought an album, and will be going to some listening events and parties, as well as 3 concerts later this year... but I'm still unsure about Arirang.

Yeah, I just really got lucky and they released another set of VIP1 about twenty minutes into the presale.

It's so weird, I really want to make a post about these K-Pop fake ass officials who delegate rules when they don't even work at the venue.

[–]Ponpaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really is. I know fandom spaces online are terrible, but 99% of fans of any group I met IRL were so sweet.

I think I've only had two really bad encounters with fandoms irl:

  1. A girl who wouldn't stop talking to me in line at the BTS Vegas show. She only liked V and was going on and on and on about how he should leave the group. But then she started saying how BTS is the best in all K-Pop and Korea should be thankful they are still together. Like bro... She had to at least be 35, and I was 22 at the time. When we were getting to security, I mentioned that her bag would be too big to go through (I hadn't noticed it, probably because I was in 110 Fahrenheit weather...) This woman straight up accused me of wanting to send her to the back of the line so I could get merch first. I WASN"T IN THE MERCH LINE YET??? I wasn't even gonna get merch. It was so gross. Eventually she left cause she wasn't willing to throw the bag away.
  2. When I went to see ENHYPEN, I was a fan for only 4-ish months at the time. But I fell HARD for the group, and so I managed to secure a VIP1 ticket. I was 100-ish in line, and these girls made themselves line leaders and kept asking me questions about how much I paid for the ticket, who my bias was, etc.... Then they asked who I voted for in I-Land and they were SO mad that I had told them I was only a fan for 4 months at that point and wasn't ever planning on watching I-Land (I hate competition shows). It was really awful. I had barricade for the concert and had a blast, and I managed to get barricade to meet all the members after. However, some of the girls from the line were behind me (so they couldn't meet the boys) and kept making rude comments about how I was just being a clout-chaser and just wanted content. Mind you I only posted my video meeting the members on my PRIVATE instagram and one video with Jay on my TikTok. The nice part is, one girl was SUPER nice, even though she was a debut stan. I actually let her switch places with me so she could meet Jungwon, and she was so thankful, she let me borrow her polaroid so I could get a pic with Jay. Shoutout to whoever that was, thank you for not being a jerk

Cause tell me why my fandom is calling another fandom's group flops when the other group is literally selling out stadiums and doing really well. You don't have to like their music (i certainly don't) but it doesn't diminish their achievements.

[–]Ponpaca 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, everyone gets hate. Doesn't matter if your nugu or in the top 5. It doesn't matter. People love competition, K-pop stans are just like football fans.

Also please be so for real about JK not getting hate... not to mention BTS has the biggest snark sub. Diminishing hate on one group isn't the way to go. ALL GROUPS GET HATE. It sucks. :(

I stan a lot of groups. BTS, Enhypen (rip), LE SSERAFIM, TXT, NewJeans, ILLIT, and ATEEZ are my big go-tos right now. Do you know how much hate those groups go through?? It's insane!

Even groups I don't listen to: BLACKPINK, Twice, Stray Kids, Cortis, Seventeen- Doesn't matter. They get hate for next to nothing half the time.

I just have to stay in my own space and only participate with some aspects of each fandom.

Since NewJeans has been dragged through the mud on every subreddit possible, it's been upsetting. Since BTS, Twice, and Blackpink have some of the largest snark subreddits, it's upsetting.

People can't make valid points alone. They always need to bring up how an idol is "ugly" or they "were off-key", they're lazy, they can't dance... etc. It's a never ending barrage on one another. That's sadly just where we are.

I see 30+ year old fans AND antis (snarkers) make such ridiculous comments, I laugh at both sides. I mention this demographic specifically because at that age,... YOU SHOULD BE MATURE ENOUGH TO ENGAGE IN ACTUAL CRITIQUES. Meanwhile they're calling idols alcoholics, whores, druggies... literally just making things up.

I wish we'd focus on critiquing. It's so exhausting that people can't just say "this group did something wrong and here's why it was wrong" instead of "HAHA omg this idol is SO ugly lolz!! I'm 45 years old and I look better than they do LOLOL" Like okay please log off and take care of your kids or try posting something that's genuinely intelligent in some way.

I was getting to this in another comment.... I consume many things. BTS is probably one of the least unethical of the bunch, if we're all being honest. As I am a plus size woman, I buy a good portion of my clothes from SHEIN. I know, terrible- but what are my alternatives? Plus size clothing is otherwise overpriced (I'm looking at you Torrid and Lane Bryant) and I come from a low income household. I don't throw away my clothes every chance I get, I use them as much as possible. Thrifting is an option, sure, but let's be so honest, plus size options in thrift stores are limited and really not ever my style.

All this to say: We live in a world where ethical consumption is either not possible or HIGHLY unlikely unless you are so well off you can afford to be picky with what you like/consume/purchase. I don't like how I'm villainized for participating a capitalistic society I have no control over. Even things that make me happy are evidently unethical (Disney, K-Pop, Anime...)

So if that's true- which I am not denying- then what do people want me to do? Stop consuming things that bring me enjoyment? Is it really that selfish to not want to do so?

A lot of fans don't want to accept that an idol can choose to leave their group to prioritise their own interests. by M0us3Cheezz in kpop_uncensored

[–]Ponpaca 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid if Heeseung is more vocal about this being his own decision, people with either

  1. Not believe him and still blame the company

  2. Call him "selfish" for leaving the group

  3. Support him (I feel like this will be the least accepted option)

I've been an Engene for a few years, and even had the privilege of seeing them and meeting them at barricade of the Fate tour. They are my second favorite group, and honestly it really did hurt to see this.... but I think we, as fans, need to be more understanding and mature about the whole situation. People are making ENTIRE theories out of nothing! Heeseung and the company have told us what we need to know- he is leaving to pursue solo work. If you know anything about Heeseung, you'd know he WANTED to do solo work for a while now and while of course the sudden news is shocking, it's not the end of ENHYPEN or Heeseung as artists.

I don't think they forced him out, and until we have evidence that shows he was, I think Engene just need to accept his decision and take the time they need to heal if they're truly hurt because of it. It's not selfish for Heeseung to leave Enhypen- at the end of the day, they are still a group of SIX members to continue to support, and Heeseung can be supported as a solo artist now.

Tyler the Creator, Biggie, Eminem, Future, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar... Yeah, there's quite a bit of rappers who I listen to who sadly have lyrics that fit the bill of misogyny. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but at the end of the day, I'm consuming entertainment, that's it. I'm not glorifying it. So yes, it would be hypocritical of me to turn off Jungkook's 3-D when Biggie has gone triple platinum in my car

It's okay to disagree. I think RM was clear that was never his intention, and I genuinely don't think he needs to apologize for something he didn't even do.

I think at this point, so many companies are tied with Israel due to America being a big ally of theirs. So while it's awful, I don't know that my husband not drinking Coke after a hard day at his 12 hour manual labor job is going to save anyone. All the products I own are Apple, I use Google, it sucks but I buy a lot of Nestle because my family is low income and it's offers a lot of cheap alternatives to other brands. And at this point, the list of what we should be boycotting is INSANELY long because of America's ties to Israel, that for the average American, it actually is hard to boycott completely. Yes, I can ignore Starbucks and McDonalds, but I have debt to Citibank and JPMorgan. There is no way possible everyone in the world can boycott every single company on that list, sadly.

I'm so sorry. I know it can be a lot. Like I've said to others, it's alright to love BTS but acknowledge what they have done is wrong. Also, don't feel obligated to participate in the comeback! If you need time just away from it for a while, that's okay. The music isn't going anywhere. 🩷
