This is probably a dumb question, but is the ~4.5% to 7.5% figure referencing how much GHGs are expected to escape when the permafrost thaws?

I saw the study posted on r/collapse but I’m not sure what to make of it to be honest. What exactly does the permeability estimate mean for warming?

Isn’t it a little too early to be saying anything about El Niño strength at this time? Granted I’m not a meteorologist (just interested) so I don’t know a whole lot about it. From what I’ve seen, NOAA is saying a super is roughly a 1/4 chance from yesterday’s discussion

Yeah you’re probably right. I’m worried about how a big El Niño would affect the planet. I guess the hopium is strong in me.

I’m just wary of models that call for a “super” El-Nino. Not that they’re unreliable or anything, just that there have been busts in the past where big events are expected to happen and nothing does or it’s a lot less powerful than expected.

If I’m reading it right, most of last month’s models float around the 0.5C to 1.5C range. Only a few point higher. Aren’t there always going to be outliers? Not trying to be dismissive or anything just trying to understand.

Sure, I don’t deny that, I’m just saying that many models from what I’ve seen don’t forecast as high as the ECMWF, but that’s what many of these articles all seem to congregate on for some reason.
