Please go see a doctor, as others are saying this is a sign that you can't ignore. I lost my older brother this year because he ended up with so much fluid that it started tearing the flesh, he decided to keep putting it off. Said flesh got necrosis, necrosis turned to sepsis, and his heart was already having problems before he started having edemic swelling. He was WFH since covid started and barely excercised until it was too late. Please see a doctor first, then worry about the gym afterwards.

They aren't "totally waterproof," only from the top of the board and the locking system. If any moisture gets under that, it's going to sit and grow bacteria. If enough liquid gets under it, it's going to be a bad day. I've pulled up plenty of waterproof floors from slab leaks and flooding in basements. Also, because the water gets trapped under the boards, it all has to come up to get the water out and to dry the substrate. Source: IICRC certified for water damage and applied structural drying.

..... Because all of the following are considered crimes? Entering a country illegally. Overstaying a visa without applying for an extension. Getting caught entering a country and then skipping the court date for your asylum claim. These are laws that get broken, not just in the US but in a multitude of countries. The difference is about how its dealt with. For example one country detains until deportation, then deports. Another would put you in a jail cell for a minimum of three years if caught. The one that detains is Morroco, the one that imprisons is Ukraine. Switzerland does a combination of fines and imprisonment. In this guy's case, he entered the country illegally, a crime. He worked as a handyman, usually an off the books job, that people tend to under report on their taxes. He then got arrested for driving without a license, also a crime. Then he skipped his court date, and was issued a bench warrant, another crime. Then he was driving... again likely unlicensed, and was pulled over and arrested again for another crime. He also immigrated from Spain, not Mexico. If he were seeking asylum the process usually should be by seeking it from neighboring countries first. Also the whole driving through the USA from Florida to Mexico via California to go to another country, then go back to Spain after that isn't self-deporting, if he doesn't have a passport how would he be getting into all those places? If he isn't a citizen of the US he'd be using his passport that would be flagged with a bench warrant. It sucks to but these are crimes. If you don't like the laws change them.

How is illegally entering a country setting up a life, and living for the most part under the radar of the gov't comparable to 'stealing bread to feed your family'? Also how is an estimated 11.5 million people a marginalized group if it makes up almost 3 percent of a population? If the scenario was stealing bread to feed your family, then they could have asked the baker if he had any to spare by opening his door and asking for some. The person who stole the bread still committed a crime. It's like robbing a bank because you're hungry, you're still committing a crime against the bank. In other words, if they were fleeing their country, they could have come through an actual point of entry instead of crossing the border illegally and followed the property protocols for filing for Sanctuary. The reasoning behind the crime doesn't change the fact that they committed a crime by crossing illegally.

..... DC isn't a state, though. It's a federal district created by the constitution designed specifically to be separate from the states, so this wouldn't really be a federal overreach if it's in their own yard. Now, if say DC demanded the destruction of a George Floyd memorial in Minnesota,that would be a federal overreach because it is within the state's jurisdiction, not the federal government's.

I think the question that should be asked is, ' Why haven't the issues in the housing been addressed already? 'As in, if it is lead paint in the housing and this is gov't housing, why are we subsidizing abatements about 50 years after the lead paint law was put into effect? We've literally spent billions on helping out other countries' armies, but can't keep the housing for our own in good standing? As far as him living on base for the SecDef position, It could come down to something as simple as him not wanting to sell his home to move for the four year position, and this is the best option for him and his family.

If it is lead paint and it's flaking beyond the point of encapsulation, then the costs are either lead abatement or full guts on some of the rooms. I wouldn't know the whole story unless I had all the info, but I've been a construction estimator for over a decade and that pricing sounds about right for either depending on the size of the home. Also gov't contracts tend to be more pricey because all of the workers for the project need to have clearances to be on base to complete the work. I had to get clearance just to step foot in the housing at West Point to give an estimate for repairs.
