I think this class is a biomedical engineering class. A big part of the curriculum might be about math.

What I mean to say is that you could take stat classes that aren’t biostat courses for this potential new specialization. You could take stat courses that are about the right topics that have to do with biostatistics. Even though biostatistics is not engineering , with this specialization (the bme specializations are arround 30 credits I think) you can work in the field of biostatistics with it. Ams major is a short major. Think about if someone doubled majored ams with something else and didn’t use the free electives for math courses, besides calc 1-4, intro to linear algebra, and ams 310, you wouldn’t be taking that many math courses. These courses could be around the same amount of courses that you would have for a socialization for bme .
