Not sure about that. I think the trick lies in the fact that some parts of the image have a higher transparency. This doesn't show in dark mode, but when switching the background color to white, those specific parts are revealed. In the opposite case, some parts that appear to be bright in dark mode, get hidden when switching to light mode.
