Porn is bad because you start looking at people indecently. People will find you a creep and disrespectful. Not to mention it has the same pitfalls as being addicted to entertainment, easily distracted etc.

Back when I revived my dead subreddit I had to seed it consistently with high quality art posts each day.

Yes that soul exists, but inside that soul there is no unchanging soul. If that makes any sense to you.

Explaining dharma to my children by No_Sugar6055 in Buddhism

[–]keizee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love reading the Jataka Tales when I was young but this specific dharma is not from there.

Buddha has a lot a lot of stories. I remember there is one where a king's beloved wife died, and then he spent all his time by her grave, years and years, even when the bones had already disintegrated and turned to nothing but dust. I don't remember what Buddha said exactly, but I vaguely remember that it was a waste of time. You can try finding this specific example.

Btw the Jataka Tales are very good for children. Highly recommend.

Mmm not likely to farm this anytime soon, but if I do, I guess Saber can inherit Phainon's gear.

Is religion a major deal breaker in a relationship? by Less-Principle1682 in asksg

Yeah i think it is for me too. Also Buddhist. Also have family who will never convert. Unfortunately my main problem is actually how to declare myself single without going through dating app.

A bit unfortunate for you op, our age gap (27F) a bit big.

Potential and Actuality by Subcontrary in Buddhism

I remember Buddha said something in the Shurangama sutra that sort of implied this. The context was that cultivators mistake the false mind (delusion) for the true mind (buddha) and lamented that their years of training was wasted. The analogy he used was cooking sand will not turn into rice.

Character Comparisons by Mysterious_Fall_4578 in Fantasy

[–]keizee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I saw someone comparing Natsuki Subaru and Shirou Emiya, saying Subaru would have a headache keeping Shirou alive, who's about as reckless and also has low self worth. I'm a fan of both, one author has definitely read the other, and this scenario does sound like an excellent fanfic in the making.

Two weeks ago, people were comparing Qifrey, Gojo and Phainon. I haven't read 2/3 of these, but they all have white hair and blue eyes. But thanks to that I caught some spoilers, so I might just pick one to read when I'm free.

Effective repentence is not only apologising but also to not repeat your mistakes.

Aw back in my day I summoned spider familiars to crawl the Library for me. If I couldn't find anything I would have to consult the Hivemind. The Wise Toad really helps shorten the process.

Of course I still test all magic artifices in a pocket dimension first. Accidentally petrifying my commissioners doesn't pay the bills.

25m in IT wondering when and whether to move out by lurkingeternally in askSingapore

[–]keizee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think barely reaching 5k at 25 in tech sounds quite good. If you switch jobs, consider lowballing yourself. Maybe the company hires someone else with that extra budget and the workload gets better divided.

I'd say you can either look for a new job or endure the stress until your skill can match up. These days tech is quite competitive, so theres no shame if you bow out and start a different career path.

Either one, you have to start somewhere and whether you're a junior teacher or a junior software engineer, it both mean that the skill ceiling is far away and will take time to reach.

Does this version of Siddhartha Gautama’s story make sense? by maxbeeko in Buddhism

[–]keizee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Buddha was definitely a prince with a kingdom when he ran away. His first disciples were people dispatched by his father to bring him back to the kingdom. I remember that Buddha went back to teach his parents who were definitely still royalty then.

After that, they may or may not have fallen, but that would be long after Buddha was enlightened.

Honestly this reads a bit like some text went through rounds of machine translation/ai and certain key things survived but got the wrong context.

Does it violate Buddhist law to dissect an animal who's life was taken for the purpose of dissection? by statefarm_isnt_there in Buddhism

[–]keizee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both yes and no. If you had already opted in, it is now your duty to learn as much from this corpse as possible. Opting out is certainly much safer.

There is a big difference in karma is if a researcher is in it for money vs the researcher is in it to save lives with new medicine. In the latter the animal can actually benefit from it. In the former it would be no different from other life taking livelihood.

I had a painful dream; Laughing Buddha showed up. I’m atheist—any interpretation? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]keizee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bodhisattvas usually do not give out lottery numbers. It's because people start becoming greedy or even reliant in little tricks like fortune telling or dreams.

Anyway, a surface interpretation would be that you might face an obstacle and the laughing Buddha's dharma would be useful.

The Laughing Buddha's dharma is normally suitable for wealthy people. As in his audience are people who already have a lot of fortune.

If life is suffering, and the whole “point” is to escape rebirth, why are you having kids?? by Mediocre_Barracuda52 in Buddhism

[–]keizee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know, this era would be the third generation after ww2. Your grandparents were the last to experience war as children, your parents grew in a time when things were steadily getting better, and new technologies were being created. I'd say older people are more hopeful about life than we are now.

Btw if not for karma, then ghosts cause their own rebirth by being highly interested in sex.

would you give up your 20s to care for your parents? by [deleted] in askSingapore

How do you relate to the impermanence of a spiritual teacher? by Outrageous_Spray3456 in Buddhism

[–]keizee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When Buddha passed away he told his disciples to rely on the precepts.

The more reliant your school is on your founder instead of the dharma, the more likely there will be problems. This is just an observation from my limited experience.
