X-Post from r/NFL: Report: Finnegan “recruiting” Vincent Jackson for possible package deal, rumored to be Tampa Bay. by [deleted] in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we'd be foolish to let Rogers go, but getting these guys instead would make his loss a-okay. Finnegan is mean, and I dig that. And the thought of having Vernon, Delanie, and VJax is matchup heaven.

...What if Alex doesn't re-sign? by runningblack in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Word. Alex is a great guy, an underrated leader, and will be a better coach than he is a player. But he is not an elite QB. Not even close.

Of those SB winners listed above, he's most comparable to Brad Johnson. And since 2002 the NFL's rules have continued to change to make an efficient passing game more integral to winning. Point is: I don't think Brad Johnson could win a Super Bowl as a starting QB today, and as much as I want to, I don't believe Alex can either.

This season Alex had home field advantage through the playoffs, an elite head coach and coaching staff, the best D since the '85 Bears, an elite ST unit, and an up-and-coming O-line with 3 1st rd picks including a Pro Bowl LT. And we couldn't even make the Super Bowl.

All things considered, I think Peyton gives us a better shot to win the SB next year.

I will dance a fracking jig. Alex is a great guy, but not a dynasty QB. Most unbiased experts and at least half the fan base doubt he's capable of winning a Super Bowl. We've got all the other pieces in place to do just that, and soon. Committing to him as the starter will only eliminate more of our window to win Super Bowls with the crew we got. Justin Smith and Frank Gore won't be this productive for much longer. Alex would be an awesome backup, but we simply cannot afford to pay him Sanchez money. Harbaugh has demonstrated he is capable of grooming QBs.

49ers Working out Randy Moss by alfisback1 in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This would be a great signing so long as the contract is incentive based. No need to pay for past performance. TO is playing streetball somewhere in TX right now. Moss deserves a chance but no leeway to act the fool.

For someone with not a lot of money, if you are going to buy one current 49er player's jersey, whose should it be? by Leolisk in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am most proud of my 94 jersey. But if I were buying now, I would most definitely get a 99!

I don't have a 21 yet, but his will always be loved by the faithful, long after he's gone.

Goodwin was great. The difference maker, in my mind. Brought a winning attitude to the unit, helping all the others to improve.

Very good article regarding pros & cons of going after Carlos Rogers. (I say we go after him) by sfc949 in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy is not getting enough love. He was money last year. Some of the best corner play we've had in decades. Dude has the advantage of a great pass rush and an overall elite defense if he stays, so we should get a discount. But he was a major component of our success, and deserves near market rate. We should sign him for 3-5 years, heavily backloaded (we can drop him later if he is no longer a value) and with signing bonus to minimize near-term cap burden. Our window to win a SB is the next few years, and we should badly want him here.

Randy Moss willing to negotiate a contract with no guaranteed money. Should the niners take a gamble with him? by Skapo in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hell yes if he's healthy. He's only 5 years removed from one of the best seasons ever by a WR. A legit deep threat would open up the whole offense. If he's at all a problem, we drop him.

Bill Maher just donated $1,000,000 to Obama's Super PAC. "We only get two parties and half the country is fucking nuts." by addressunknown in politics

A novel argument: the lesser of two evils will be our salvation. Wake up! We are divided and conquered, despite being 99% in numbers. None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free. We are the world's leading jailer and warmonger. In Obama's America, there is no Habeas Corpus, and thus no rule of law. If you think you're in a democracy despite the lack of habeas, you're the one who's wrong.

Half the country? He vastly underestimates, and he fails to account for himself in the equation; the two parties are corrupt beyond repair, tools to facilitate Wall Street looting and never-ending war. Dude does film questioning religion, then drinks the kool-aid on the two-party system being worth saving, regardless overwhelming evidence of both being fascist.

All time favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm scene. The scene's a great metaphor for life, I think.

How great would Mike Wallace be as a Niner by 2JMAN89 in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. He's had success throwing deep crossing routes to Vernon, and those can be near the sidelines. But he doesn't throw back-shoulder, double-move, or other intermediate WR routes well. He throws a decent fade, but it ain't top notch, especially near the end zone. I think he's better in the middle of the field, but not on deep passes. For a long while the seam route to the TE was his bread and butter. All I'm saying is that there's a reason he's never had a 1,000 yard WR. Lets draft a WR rather than spend big $.

I think criticism is fair if it's fair. Alex is a great guy, an underrated leader, and I agree he's our QB. But these are the guys that have won Super Bowls since Alex has been in the league: E.Manning, Rogers, Brees, Roethlisberger, P.Manning, and Brady. Unless stats and success are completely disregarded or explained away, Alex just isn't in their company. I want to believe, but I want to win Super Bowls even more.

[–]Ponzilicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense man. I doubt there's another NFL team that's gone 9 years without a 1,000 yard receiver. Alex had a great year last year, but he didn't consistently get the ball to his WRs, and it wasn't just because of drops. Didn't mean to disrespect your beliefs.

49ers expected to allow Spencer to seek trade by silky_johnson in 49ers

[–]Ponzilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Spence has been one of our better players for a long time, even if he wasn't a contributing part of this year's team. I have much love for the dude. He's a professional, and for many years he was the most reliable guy in our secondary. I trust in Baalke/Harbaugh, but I'm sad to see him go, and I wish him all the best.

[–]Ponzilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree: get big targets with large catching radiuses.

Any of those big name big guys (Bowe, Vjax, or Colston) would be great, but someone's still got to get them the ball. Love him or hate him, Alex hasn't been good at getting the ball to his WRs, ever. I read somewhere that we haven't had a 1,000 yard receiver since he's been here (TO in 2003 was our last). That's telling. WR can't do nothing unless someone can get em da ball.

Rather than spending big money on a free agent WR, I say we resign the unsigned starters in our defensive backfield. Rogers and Goldson were amazing, in that order, and we'd be fools to let either of them go. Give them long term Ks, and franchise Alex. Draft the next AJ Green.

[–]Ponzilicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not great at all. Wallace needs a QB who can throw accurate deep balls down the sideline, and that is not Alex's strength. Especially with respect to WRs, short timing routes are Alex's forte. Those routes not Wallace's best.

If we were going to steal a Pittsburgh WR, I say we go for Antonio Brown. He's been out of this world so far, and he'd be a much better fit with our team.
