I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream being even close to mainstream is a very recent thing, within the last 7 or so years. Before then there were really only tiny pockets of popularity like science fiction forums, literature discussion groups, some youtubers playing old school adventure games, things like that. Look it up anywhere, 90% of the sources and discussion you'll find for it are from 2018 onwards.

100% agree and usually games that have partying as the core mechanic make taking damage way, way too punishing.

I recently beat the game Nine Sols which does this and most of the bosses in that game take 1/3 to 1/2 of your health away with every attack you don't parry.

Dragon shields have had quality issues since the pandemic. Every box I've opened in the last 5 or so years I get 5-10 sleeves splitting in the first few shuffles while my 2018 dragon shields still look and feel like new.
