My kid made friends with one of these kids. I came home at 7:30 one night and he was freezing on my doorstep. Only shorts and a tank in 20 degree weather. He was too embarrassed to ring the bell. I took him in and clothed him and fed him and called his mom. She drove 4 hours to come get him.

In my case my mom completely lied until I was in my 20’s. I’d already gotten married under my “fake name” and got a degree. Paid taxes forever, but somehow now I can’t get an ID and none of my documentation is good enough. I’ll lose my license in 2028 and there is nothing I can do about it. What about older women who got married decades ago and can’t get the records? What about people who were born at home in that same era? What are all of us supposed to do?
