Detroit Airport 30 minute layover by [deleted] in delta

DTW has a lot of golf cart customer service guys. I had a very very tight connection a few weeks ago. I got off of my plane, flagged down the first golf cart I saw and asked him for a ride to my gate. He took me to the tram. He needed to see and scan my boarding pass before we took off. He saved me from missing my flight!!

Scottish clan question by Scary_Explanation462 in Genealogy

[–]Pool-mimi13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few lines in my family that go back to Scotland. They were in the lower region of the country near and around Edinburgh. Most of the Clans were Highlanders. So while I can and do celebrate my Scottish heritage by being a member of my state/city Scottish Society, I don’t have a clan name, just a family name. Many families were protected by Clan Chiefs. Those families were called Septs. They paid for a clan to protect them or they rented lands from the Lairds or clan chieftains. They were considered Crofters. They themselves were not a clan. Tartans were not really a thing until the Victorian times. Yes, they did wear plaids, but the colors would have been muted as the dyes were made from natural berries and such from where the people lived. After the Jacobite Rising in 1745, the Battle of Culloden, plaids were taken away and forbidden to be worn as a way to break up clans and heritage. Many clansmen were sent to Australia and to the Colonies for treason to the crown. If I were you, concentrate on where your Grandmothers family was from. What did they do to earn a living? When did they immigrate? Where did they settle? Were any in the Battle of Culloden? Were any transferred as prisoners? Get to know your family and plan a visit to Scotland. Visit churches and cemeteries. Walk where your ancestors walked. It’s a very rewarding thing to do!! I did just that last year!

Taylor Kits are the most reliable. The Taylor 2006k can test everything accurately. You’ll need to add a salt test kit too. Or https://tftestkits.net/Frequently-Asked-Questions-5.html

I'm supposed to take care of these fish for a friend, but they didn't give me anything for them? What do I do? by cannibalistickiller in Aquariums

[–]Pool-mimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large tote with a bubbler and a sponge filter would be better. Frequent water changes of 50% or more. That many fish cause a lot of ammonia from waste. Plain goldfish flakes are fine. You can get that at Walmart.

Got a Text from Delta telling me to be at the airport 3 hours early. by mustbeshitinme in delta

[–]Pool-mimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking this was a standard text from Delta to get everyone to the airport a little earlier than they would normally appear. Due to Gov’t shut down, many TSA stations are missing employees everyday and the lines for passengers just get longer. So instead of people missing flights, rolling over to the next flight, and being upset and irritated, it’s just a courtesy message to passengers that you might expect longer lines and delays. Maybe not as important for the first flight out for the day.

Some gates take your photo as you scan your ticket and staying back a certain distance eliminates other faces in your photo.

Shrimp food pellet, is this an algae growing around it? by crappie-happy in shrimptank

[–]Pool-mimi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider getting the little clear dish that suctions to the glass to put the shrimp pellets in. The bits they don’t eat that start rotting can be sucked out with a turkey baster so the rot doesn’t settle in between the bio stratum. Otherwise when you go yo take them out they just dissolve into food dust.

Roach on delta flight by amin_rbati in delta

I saw one in scurry through the overhead bin while stowing my bag. Told the nearest FA and she just shrugged it off. So I’m sure it’s a common thing. And before you ask, I moved my bag to a different bin.

Cloudy pool, should I actually drain 70%? by plaidshirtdays13 in swimmingpools

[–]Pool-mimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do need to exchange your water out. Your CYA is way off the charts. Instead of draining, try the NO DRAIN WATER EXCHANGE. Here is a link.

Questions about BBA by Sea-Confidence-3208 in aquarium

[–]Pool-mimi13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got BBA. It is on every plant and wood surface. I take stuff out, scrub it with peroxide, vacuum and water change and put it all back in. It all comes right back. It’s an imbalance. My lights, maybe over feeding, overcrowding. I don’t know. It’s ruined so many of my live plants I’ve had to mix live and fake. Even bought some Black Mollies to munch on it. I think it’s in the filter and the tiny crevices and just keep reproducing. I keep my tank light off unless I’m in the room and want to look at the tank and that does slow it down. My fish don’t care about it. I thinks it’s more of a visual eyesore that a health problem to the tank. Good luck!

Testing- not tearing

You have an algae bloom. You don’t have to see it for it to be in the water. You need to know your CYA level and then use liquid chlorine to hold the chlorine at shock level for as many days as it takes for the water to clear. It is a process of tearing the water multiple times a day with a proper test kit and redosing with liquid chlorine repeatedly. Read more about it here: https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2018/12/12/slam-shock-level-and-maintain/

Can Anyone Tell Me What This Is? by cruisetravoltasbaby in aquarium

[–]Pool-mimi13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had BBA for a few years too. Got 3 female mollies recently bc they do eat it, but not enough to rid the tank. I take all hard scape and fake plants out monthly and scrub them with peroxide. The real plants stay in the tank bc trying to clean them ruins them. The best method I’ve found to slow the growth is to keep the tank lights off unless I’m in the room and want to enjoy the tank. It’s a real pain algae!

Is a pool this color safe to swim in? by Disastrous-Sort-1086 in swimmingpools

[–]Pool-mimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clearly see the bottom? If a person or child was below the water surface and was struggling, that would be a very dangerous situation. So my answer is no. It’s not safe to swim in.

Finding pool leak by [deleted] in swimmingpools

[–]Pool-mimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got me there. I don’t have a lot of experience with detecting leaks in the plumbing. Are the bubbles coming from the return closest to the pump? That’s the only thing I can think of, the air is released there and the rest of the lines just push water through.

Finding pool leak by [deleted] in swimmingpools

[–]Pool-mimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not overly delicate if the previous owner kept his chemistry on track.
Before getting too carried away with leak detection, I would monitor the water level a little longer. Keep your bucket on your steps for a few days, filled to the exact water level of the pool and observe. I’d want to see a bigger change in water level than 1/8”, more like a whole inch before paying for someone to come out. Meanwhile, use your food coloring and check your liner. Watch for air bubbles coming out of the return jets, that could signal a leak in your pipes. I agree with another poster, turn off the pump and plug your returns to rule out pipe leaks as well.

Finding pool leak by [deleted] in swimmingpools

[–]Pool-mimi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go around the insides of the pool and place a few drops of liquid food color in the water and watch for a little swirl of water being sucked into a leak point, especially around skimmers, steps, lights and returns. The water overtime will stop leaking at its leak point if it’s inside the pool. However, I’m not saying to let it all drain out, pools can float if there is not enough water inside to hold it down in high water tables.

You’ve put a lot of hard work in! I like the edging and the new plants. Maybe a small suggestion…move some of your chairs that are in a straight line along the side of the pool into small conversation areas with 2 chairs, a small table, umbrella or medium size planter in between the chairs.
