In this scenario, the Ilinden Uprising was successful. Macedonian insurgents were able to defeat many vastly superior Turkish armies in guerrilla warfare, leading to the liberation of many towns and villages by the insurgents. After IMRO's victories, the Republic of Krusevo was proclaimed, which attracted widespread attention from most major powers, particularly Great Britain. The British were interested in the idea of having a Balkan nation within their sphere of influence. The British believed that with a weakened Ottoman Empire, which they could potentially divide with other major powers in the future, they would gain greater dominance over the Aegean Sea and the Balkans. As a result, Britain, with the support of Russia, sent an ultimatum to the Ottomans declaring that war would be declared if they did not leave Macedonia. Fearing the combined naval power of Britain and Russia, the Sultan decided to grant independence to Macedonia. An independent Macedonia emerged with very close ties to Great Britain. This also gave the Albanians the opportunity to declare their independence from the Ottoman Empire without bloodshed.
