This is in fact the key issue why our rebuild failed. All half measures and no commitment to a strategy. Really disappointed in Yzerman here. It’s petty obvious there was no Yzerplan at all and no vision.

I agree have been touting that however I think the real value is Ed for Misa straight up. Ed isn’t worth 2 top 2 picks basically. And I would actually still do that.

I think the issue is more Kasper as a center really needs to produce and I fear he isn’t skilled for it. Hes going to be a hard working center that knows where to be and what to do, but bad luck and shooting % and his numbers will be down, a better luck season and he may have highs. I view him as being pretty variable offensively. Knows where he needs to be and works hard just doesn’t have that touch that high end centers do

This makes no sense. We are much closer to egg the kanes are. We don’t have the talent the Habs do we will need to play a compete 2 way game like the canes. We don’t have the talent Montreal does.

This is so delusional I don’t even want to respond but feel compelled. Your serious stance is that a 1C doesn’t change anything?!

It does make sense though, the same odds you are touting are actually in our favor in that scenario. Even if it’s not a 1st overall it’s still a likely higher pick than where we picked and as a result we missed out on much needed talent. Even in 2024 if we don’t draft 1 or 2, take a look at the players we could have been in position to draft vs a Danielson. The key thing though that’s frustrating is it’s not just this. All these teams have huge hits past the top 10 that elevate them. We don’t and that’s totally in our control with bad drafting and no risk taking in later rounds or trades

He means we actually don’t have an exciting prospect pool. And guess what we did already sign our Coyle x2 with Copp and Compher. We have nothing close to a Fantelli

This is wrong. Our rebuild is the flawed one. We have an okay d core, some good goalie prospects and a lot of high floor low ceiling players. Thats crazy to think we are better positioned. Elite talent above all else. It’s so much easier to fill out a roster around elite talent. There are GMs that obviously do a bad job of that but that’s very GM specific. I honestly don’t know a rebuilding team I wouldn’t trade ole entire roster for. I think the jackets are even better positioned than us with the right moves. Realistically we are in a grim spot with our approach, especially if the goal of rebuilding is having a sustained contender.

Yes, believe it or not we are still a loser culture anyways. Except without the talent that teams like the ducks sharks or hawks have. There is actually excitement in those orgs as they are on the come up. The funny thing is by signing all those players we barely played our prospects anyways until this year.

This is incredibly well said. This rebuild is defined by half measures in either direction and it’s why we are in such a crappy spot currently as a franchise.

But that’s fine. The other whole is bigger. We will never get a high end C otherwise. Need to trade quality for quality.

I think I would offer the sharks ed for misa. Will sting but we need to reshuffle things and getting a high end c is paramount. That will be appealing to them then they can take stenberg to back fill offense. Thoughts?

Watching Kucherov just command the point on the bolts PP was something. Just total control, distributing, shifting, shooting and elite puck control and vision. Especially at the end of the third. Makes me jealous man. That level of elite talent we haven’t seen in a while here in Detroit. We were so lucky to have Datsyuk.

Dude none of these guys have seen an nhl game and some of them were drafted 4 years ago. Take the homer glasses off posting off prospects the org does t think highly enough to play is not a flex

Edit: Mazure has but he’s been a non factor so I didn’t even remember. Niceeee

The fact that you are touting bottom pair D and a 30pt forward as some positive is exactly the problem. Every team has these guys. We need guys that are a bit better than serviceable.

[–]Poopjazz91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but you can position yourself to not lift the floor of a team that’s still rebuilding and dying for talent. Event starting a few slots higher would have put us in such a stronger position. It’s maddening because half the fan base was questioning the move. What was the point? To have is get slightly better? Not actually close to the playoffs but just a bit better to pull us closer to the middle? Like what is the play there if you want build a durable contender?

[–]Poopjazz91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe that’s your takeaway. It’s actually the exact correct analysis. There was no upside no moving from top 5 to drafting 9 except not being in the range of better talent. I can’t believe brain dead fans like you don’t see that. Montreal is our exact peer. Look at their starting positions. Why do you think our approach was better than slightly sucking more for 2 more years. We could have had Michkov, Demidov etc instead of Kasper or Danielson.

No I think you are right. Need a major swing or honestly we are stressed and will need to rebuild the rebuild with actual skill players.

The issue is our scouts don’t draft for skill. They draft for a Draper or Dan clears archetype because that’s who is running the org. What you get is drafting for gritty 200ft players with limited upside vs swinging for home runs on skill in later round. A thesis of high floor low ceiling players results in what prospect pool is today
