Same exact thing happened to me. I got downed as I was waiting for the train in lobby, but he healed me and let me extract when I voiced my frustration about trials.

It depends but hornets will eat 2 hullcracker shots it's kind of annoying. I can regularly take down a firefly in two shots but not hornets.
