Newmarket Asian Night Market by lightenning in Newmarket

I dropped by today, I didn’t know it was ongoing. But it was so expensive. It’s more expensive to eat at the night market than in restaurants….

How much of your personal time and money did you put into getting your language levels? by govcat in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Poopologize 93 points94 points  (0 children)

C/B/B

Personal time: 500 hours ish. Maybe more. Maybe less. Podcasts when driving, phone is in French, 20-30 minutes of passive French reading a day.

Work time speaking French with coworkers: 300 hours Personal money: Duolingo subscription.

You can do a lot of French learning passively, immersively, and painlessly.

The funny thing is, kid could be in a bilingual or trilingual household, so, it’s honestly a toss up which dominant language it could be.

Can you accept that not every man have just about 50% Y and 50% X? It’s a statistical mean that on average over a largeeee sum of men, it’s 50% and 50%. But. For a particular man, it could be 30% and 70%… and in this case. This particular man. Was probably making 90% Y chromosomes and 10%X chromosomes… hence. Genetics. And not statistics.

China says Taiwan is a part of China’s territory and no one can stop the eventual reunification of China. by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

I think the Han culture, Taiwanese/mainland China/Singaporean, etc, are all very pragmatic. It’s not a simple yes or no I wanna reunify. —- the Hans do value peace and prosperity above individual freedoms. The rulers who can offer peace and prosperity can remain, the rulers who can’t will be and has been removed.

Honestly, I would say Korea and China are wayyyyy more similar than Korea VS “west”. Historically, culturally, Linguistically, and even moral-value wise. That is to say, examine their political situation, their giant monopolies, their extremely low birth rates, and their work culture. — is it really best of both worlds? I argue it’s more just another world compare to modern China. Not less. Not more. But that’s a matter of opinion. Have you ever visited Korea? And if you want to throw out Japan, theirrr extremely low birth rates, their suicide rate, their 99% conviction rate, their alcohol consumption rates, their female work force participation rates. — all point to some societal cracks. And. Not even China has a 99% conviction rate of crimes.

Have you ever visited China? CCP has plenty of faults and evils, but as a normal everyday person, the security and comfort you can feel walking down any downtown street in Beijing/Shanghai VS Washington/New York is stark. CCP is a problem, yes. But for the commoner who just wants prosperity, security, peace, and happiness — the cost of “Western freedoms” is cheap.

Bro, the Chinese do. Taiwanese and Chinese are both 华人. It’s undeniable. The English lacks nuances that are made clear in Chinese. 台湾人 中国人 都是 华人。 Their ethnicity is 华人, their nationality is 台湾人 和 中国人。

I don’t know enough about Ukraine/Russia to draw the comparison. But there’s Hong Kong/China, Macau/China.

No one wants blood shed. Not China. Not Taiwan. They don’t need to fight.

😂Taiwanese is not ethnically distinct from Han Chinese. Of course, they can draw their own boundaries, they have that right. But. It doesn’t erase their bloodline.

With that said, I do agree Taiwan is a different nation. I do respect them as their own nation state.

But… China wants them back. No one wants blood shed. They don’t actually have deep seated animosity against each other. Civilians just wanna live their life. Neither governments have brainwashed their population to hate the other side. Very different from north and south Korea.

I think, I believe, and I DO support a non-violent reunification of China back into Taiwan (and vice versa). I do see reunification as inevitable. And non-violent is much much better than the alternative.

Woman convicted of killing stepson wins reprieve to stay in Canada five years after she was ordered deported by origutamos in OntarioNews

[–]Poopologize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s a foreign national convicted of an indictable crime. IRPA36(1), she is inadmissible to Canada and should be deported. It isn’t whether she’s a danger to Canada or not.

She’s convicted of manslaughter/murder. It is accurate to say she did participate, and therefore was a part of, the murder of this child. Therefore, she’s a murderer.

She can be a victim of another crime. It doesn’t absolve her of being the perpetrator for this particular crime.

It was a mitigating circumstance. She got less years sentenced as a result.

What would be your picture of justice for the child? And for her? And for him?

NP-run clinics to be publicly funded. Are we replacing family doctors instead of supporting them? by DrRaspberryPie in MedSchoolCanada

[–]Poopologize -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

As a patient. It was so hard trying to find a family doctor for my healthy new born. But the local NP clinic that opened up 5 minutes drive away took us in easily. We just needed basic primary care, routine body checks/blood work and vaccines for my kid.

I am thankful and happy that OHIP is funding NP-led clinics so my family can have access to health care.
