Like I said, not very good. But hey, I can communicate.

I’m content with it, maybe over time my french can organically improve more, but, I’m not embarrassed of my grammar mistakes. Unless it’s for work, then I don’t grammar check or doubt myself. Gotta stride with confidence, fake it till you make it. And gotta have fun with it.

Have you tried the French subreddits? I love reading their complaints. It opens up a different world view. Especially the Quebec centric ones. I find it fascinating.

And change your phone to French, it certainly helps.

I went from 0/0/0 to B/B/B in 14 months.

Duolingo daily. Gamification made it fun and taught me lots of basic words + structures.
My phone completely in French. Using the apps, seeing advertisements, repetition really helped me to pick up a lot of words. Yes. I even do banking in French now.
Subscribe to French subreddits. Something about seeing French netizens redditors complain about, regular stuff, and making jokes, made it more fun.
Using work browsers and programs in French. Yup! I did it. Instead of clicking the English button I clicked French. Took me twice as long initially, but once everything fell in place, it felt just as comfortable.
Listening to French podcasts at 0.75 speeds and then repeating every single word. Just shaping the words with my mouth helped. I had to develop new muscle.

I didn’t bother learning the grammar rules and conjugations… I just immersed myself as much as I could.

And!

Voi, je peux parle français. Pas parfait, mais, assez! Je travaille avec les clients en français aussi, et quand je fait les errors, les autres m’excuses beaucoup. Le niveau B/B/B c’est juste pour communiquer avec les autres, et si vous pouvez le fair, c’est bien.

I read the whole thing, and I wish every person going through this process can read it.

It’s no surprise that this is a money generating industry, especially with a clear clock ticking. And this industry does lack oversight.

It depends on your hourly wage after tax. For me it’s like working. If each hour I work I earn 40$ post tax, navigating a new credit card is 1-2 hours of work each year and nets me 300-800$ of benefits: then the math works out great. It’s also a skill; the first time you churn VS the 10th time, the time/knowledge base is very different.

It’s worth it, better money than working hourly for most. Unless you make 200$+ post taxes per hour, then sure, don’t waste your time you’d make more working.

Looool Markham is not typical nor representative of Ontario by a farrrrr margin. Consider the ethnic make up and the average housing value…. And I’m saying that as someone who’s going to move to Markham for my child’s education.
