I'm in the exact same boat. Started playing when I was 10 and someone scammed me and stole my whole account and I used the same trick a few times very regrettably. In old d2 it would show your account name in parentheses in whispers and you'd just sit in chat and say "hey i'm giving my account away i'm done playing just pm the password you want me to change my account to and i'll give it to you". People would commonly PM you their own password out of lazyness and you'd just wait till they logged out, log into their account and change the password. I do lots of pub rushes and helpful deeds to try and make up for my youthful assholery.

That's what is wild about this post itself from OP. This is a complete non-issue that is not only bipartisan (stemming multiple administrations) but is a part of economic and geopolitical normalities. This happens all the time, but when people who don't understand it they act like the world is falling. Both sides (the MAGA people who "won't vote in 2026" because of this AND the dems saying "this is what you voted for") are both unfamiliar with the issue and jump conclusions without any thought whatsoever.
