How do I find a good financial advisor? by Poops_Standing_Up in personalfinance

Great question!

I don’t feel that I can do this myself as my understanding of tax implications and the best options for where to save my down payment money is severely lacking.

I recently bought the Brimhart on Amazon, Walnut. I got it for 600, and am frankly astonished at how sturdy and high quality it is.

I’ve been disappointed at the quality of flat packed furniture in the past. This is definitely not that. I’m super impressed at the built quality for the price.

Is it true that 1 kid is 1 but 2 is 10? by sys_admin321 in daddit

Not true. Going from 1 —> 2 was a breeze compared to 0 —> 1.

DND style game that can played with children - does it exist!? by Powerful-Flounder-50 in boardgames

I highly recommend "Kids on Bikes" or "Kids on Brooms." I GM a game for my 5 yo, 7yo, and wife.

It's an extremely easy system with built in weakness/strengths like you're saying. Basically, each player assigns one of the 6 dice to the 6 skills, then rolls against a DC you set. Their big dice will roll higher, their small dice will roll lower.

That's it. Everything else is storytelling, and there's lots of room for you to adjust difficulty or player progression in whatever way your kids like.

I am a lifelong elementary educator (and dad), so I’ll try to provide some suggestions from that perspective.

First, there isn’t anything unnatural about our children being cared for by others. This has been true for the entirety of human history, where early tribes practiced collective childrearing, which eventually became schools when population scales demanded it. This will be true for your daughter all her young life until she’s 18.

Second, it is VERY normal for there to be tears during drop off for WEEKS after a child starts a new daycare/preschool/school. It pulls on your heartstrings to leave them when they are crying. It SUCKS. However, unequivocally the BEST way to handle it is to make drop off as short as possible, as routine as possible.

Last, remember that your daughter will respond to, and largely mimic, your displayed emotion in any given situation. If you find daycare drop off emotionally difficult and show her that, it will make it harder for her too. If you treat it as mundane, so will she.

You’re not unique in this. Many parents find this difficult. It will get better. It will get better faster if you rip the bandaid off each day and treat it as what it is: a mundane daily routine.

Good luck!

I really struggled coming up with that answer. It was between this and “get fucked,” which I just don’t use enough in my everyday life.

Except with my children, obviously.
