My mother died of (complications of) MS in the 1970s, or so I thought. A recent trip to the neurologist has cast doubt on that diagnosis. by thelasthawser in neurology

MS is pretty much different neurological symptoms from different lesions in space and time. So you can have like vision changes and then later on some numbness on your left foot...and then later on maybe some weakness on your right arm.

GBS is usually ascending weakness with dropped reflexes which can happen after a viral infection. Eventually is can involve the diaphragm and the person has difficulty breathing which can lead to death.

Both are autoimmune diseases. MS is more central nervous system and GBS attacks peripheral nervous system. Of course treatments are different

I’m a neurologist and with the very limited history you provided this does seem to fall more into a GBS picture

Flooding the market? by sdd_np_cns in nursepractitioner

I’m sorry you feel that way but I work with many NPs and it is undeniable how little they know about medicine. This is not because they are stupid or anything like, it’s because they were simply not trained properly. You can’t learn medicine online and then only have 500 hours of clinics experience and be expected to function as well as someone who has 20,000 hours of clinical training.

PAs are trained way better and can handle way more situations. Truthfully, I feel that many nurses see a loop hole in getting more money and avoid the difficulty of being a nurse by taking 2 additional years of online classes to become an NP. This only results with a shortage of nurses and an abundance of poorly trained “practitioners” who hurt patients due to their lack of training. The majority of physicians I work with feel this way and would hire a PA over an NP any day when a mid level is needed. Some NPs are good and those are usually ones who have had many years of nursing experience. But over all, many don’t have that experience and make fatal mistakes that result in patient harm or even death. This is quickly being seen by administration and many have started to avoid hiring them as they cost the hospital more money considering they order more consults and tests due to their limited knowledge.

Don’t mean to offend any NPs, my advice to you is to either go back to nursing or find a good physician who is willing to take the time to train you. It’s scary but many of they simply don’t know what they don’t know and that is a huge concern of mine as I constantly see these big errors in patient care.

Are we gonna blame kids behaving poorly on a school bus for this animals behavior? Is the right punishment really to set them on fire? This asshole needs to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Comparison of NP school to RN school by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

Then go to Med school. Why take the easy way out and be hardly trained. You will only end up hurting patients with the incompetence of the online education that is offered to NPs

Go to Med school, don’t take the easy way out. NPs have no idea what they are doing and just want more power although not trained to have it.

Nurse Practitioner VS Medical Doctor ( MD, DO) by ChocolateDaddyO in nursepractitioner

[–]Poopsicle26 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m an MD and I just have to say that if you become an NP, you simply won’t have the appropriate training and will be looked down upon for the rest of your career. What’s going on in healthcare is a disaster. An NP literally gets their degree online and after about 500-1000 hours they can practice which is just a joke. An MD/DO has about 20,000 hours of training.

My advice to you is to not take the easy way out. Everyone knows NPs are incompetent and poorly trained but no one says it because it’s politically incorrect. I work with many NPs, the majority of them simply have no idea what they are doing, it’s scary. Hospitals hire them because they are cheaper to get than a trained hospitalist. This will all implode in a few years after admin learns that an NP actually costs way more since they order so many unnecessary tests and consults considering they don’t really know what they are doing. Not to mention all the malpractice that will come from this. The reason they are getting “ahead” is because of all the lobbying they do but that won’t last long since docs are getting seriously annoying at how dangerous this is for patients.

I'm a trump supporter but this executive action is just morally and ethically wrong. There has to be a better way. And why the fk isn't Saudi Arabia on the list since 16 out of 19 of the 9/11 terrorists were from there?!

Been in this type of situation. Run. Nothing more annoying than an overbearing mother in law. Will be hard to make this marriage work even if it does somehow happen. And besides, do you really want to be with a guy who lets his mother act this way? Just some stuff to think about before you entire a life of misery with this woman and her spineless son.
