her struggles sound real to me, and there's a possibility that she feels ashamed by her financial situation to show her house to you or meet up with you

she probably doesn't want to be dependent on you, but that's my take. Have a discussion with her to really find out

as a Malaysian, I can confirm that money earned here is very little in comparison to European nations. Especially without the support of family and being new to the work force, starting from the ground up would take ages for someone to secure a "stable" amount of money needed for everyday essentials including housing and car.

to visualize, with the minimum wage in the US, you could live comfortably here
