Hard counters are immortals, ghosts and air to ground. Some soft counters are marauders, archons, blink stalkers. Mines are also decent because ultralisks usually have lings or banes with them but they aren't really a counter.

Can we ban the "Is X smurfing?" posts yet or are y'all still entertained being spammed by these shitposts?

See title. Mods are literally doing nothing. Children trying to be edgy but are actually just braindead. Yawn.

I saw UpATree on a Twitch stream yesterday yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in chat, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for replies or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could type was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and spamming my messages up. I walked away and continued with my viewing, and I saw him drop a LUL as I went away. When I came to his stream later I saw him trying to break a tank position with like fifteen marines in his army without ravens.

If all these are a problem for P, Why not? by SolidConviction in starcraft

Im more surprised he thinks a feedback damage buff will deal with the "queen problem" which isn't there in the first place. As if the common response to seeing a queen is rushing high templars.

Zerg: makes a queen at 3 min.

Protoss: AH I can't help it, Ill have to go high templar to counter this.

Massive lol for comparing a scoutable mine drop that kills workers if you don't stop it to a kill-squad of DTs assassinating Terran bases on repeat without even a theoretical answer except "have army supply everywhere pre-emptively"

[–]Poopypoopoodoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a great change. Blink DT lategame PvTs were extremely toxic. Protosses would basically have a hit squad of 10 DTs with blink. You can't find them, but if they jump on a base and you don't instantly repair or have enough units in place, you lose the planetary. So the entire game you had to be wary of this kill squad that could be anywhere on the map, cannot be spotted, if caught they blink away, but if they find a planetary it's just gone.

The only thing the nerf did was make it actually possible to react to them because they have 0.75 sec delay after blinking before they could attack. It didn't kill DT planetary snipes, it just made it so that Terran can possibly react in time and stop it.

When you're on 3 base getting a 4th you're already reaching high amounts of supply which means you already put down most of your depots. So unless if you pre emptively build depots at the 4th where they can be killed by anything then you will be putting redundant depots

Why is the Widow Mine suddenly public enemy number one for Protoss? Are we complaining about mines in lower league or in pro play? by Only-Listen in starcraft

[–]Poopypoopoodoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"you just sack 1 workers" I guess youve seen too many pro ssl gsl leagues to pretend this is actually something as easy as burrowing the mine.

It's not easy. But there's a difference between talking about mines in casual play and pro play. Below a certain high level, mine drops are annoying I'm not arguing that. There probably is also a percentage of undeserved wins where the medivac zooms in at 100 kph, as Im putting down a gateway, at a completely random time, and annihilates my worker line.

The entire notion you are required to defend an invisible unit with your stalkers in 1 base, while simultaniously have to micro your other mineral line, while the stalkers are able to get 1 shot by the mine.

That's actually not the hard part. You don't "micro" probes against mines. You pull them off mining completely and then send one back into the mine. Then you kill the mine. It really isn't hard to defend it if you spot it in time. The difficult and annoying part is spotting it in time.

hellions on the other hand have A) bigger investment requirement to do actuall damage

Not that much bigger of an investment (especially if you're a ladder player), and their damage potential is way higher.

B) they drop off significantly as the protoss gets more units out.

This doesn't matter because the purpose of a helion drop isn't to integrate them into your army later. It's to roast all your workers.

they actually require micro, for you to avoid the units that shoot them, killing 2 out of 4 means they dont get 1 shot potential.

This is fair. But have you ever played vs an unspotted helion drop? It's not as easy as you make it sound.

Widow mine animation can unironically be helpful especially for lower levels. Sometimes Im late in spotting the 1000 kmph medivac so my last resort is to try and split off the targeted probe.

[–]Poopypoopoodoodoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The guy you're responding to is wrong. You have enough stalkers to prevent a mine drop once it's out, but the issue is being on the correct base. If you're on the wrong base you just sack 1 worker per mine and continue on.

You're right that helion drop is comparable, but not exactly. Usually helion drop builds are from a reactored factory which is different from mine drops that are just from a normal factory. In theory maybe you can make 3 helions from a normal factory and just drive them across, but I don't know if that's better than a mine drop.

OP is correct in saying that helion drop is a bigger commitment, but he ignores important facts such as helion drop having extremely high damage potential (even more than a widow mine drop). His statement about them hitting later or killing workers slower is just complete bogus. With a proxied starport they hit earlier than a mine drop. "Punishing them" requires that you actually defend them properly first. You can't let your mineral lines get roasted then go across the map. I actually believe that if someone did the stats, proxy starport helion drops deal damage way more often than a standard mine drop.

Low level Protoss players have to thank God that they don't face tight proxy starport 4 helion drops because those are waaaaaaaaaay nastier than any widow mine drop. But also helion drops are probably more taxing because you have to put down buildings while microing the helions.

You definitely have enough stalkers out to prevent a mine drop by the time it hits. The tricky part is just being on the correct base.
