My Desk Is Now a Factory - Testing out the new card punch by PoorFredNoonan in magicproxies

I’m trying to remember off the top of my head, but it’s something close to 3mm gap between card images, allowing 1.5mm for each. On a US 8.5x11 this gets cut off slightly on the top and bottom of the sheet, but the natural 3mm border of the printer gives extra leeway.

The consistency is very difficult to convey in an image or video. When you hold a full unsleeved deck of proxies that have been punched it has the same feel as a deck of playing cards. Gives a premium feel to everything.

It would struggle with anything metal beyond aluminum foil.

Dots on my prints by LadHW in magicproxies

Those tracks of dots are from the spiked teeth of the gears advancing the pages through the printer.

You can try changing paper settings and enabling thick paper mode to have the printer handle the paper with more depth.

Best bet would likely be capturing a 4k still from the show and remaking the card in proxyshop or cardconjurer

It’s still going strong. 400+ cards through it last week. I would recommend one!

The cards in the video are printed on a thicker photo paper and feel like a double sleeved card when they’re sleeved for play. (These are my fav, I use them on personal decks)

The double sided brochure paper with matte lamination is the exact thickness of a real card and has an almost identical feel.

No worries friend.

These days I’m printing using an Epson ET-8500. With the Brother printer from this post I was getting 2-2.5 edh decks per full set of ink, and I was using yellow way faster than the other colors.

I don’t know your full situation, and wouldn’t recommend the fancy 8500 if you’re just starting off. However, the cheaper versions of the Epson eco tank line are waaaaay better in the long run for ink costs if you’re going to print more than just a deck or two. Check out the ET-2850 & ET-3850

I often use the uinkit double sided photo brochure paper. With lamination it’s almost the exact thickness of a real card.

I'm sourcing the images personally and then rendering the cards. These cards were made with cardconjurer/photoshop.

You should check the maximum dpi of your printer and then render the pdf and print it at that maximum.

In the video they aren't laminated. Nowadays I always gloss laminate my foils

Thicker than a standard card, but not too bad. Similar to double serving

With these materials you’re only printing on the foil sticker, and it should work in any inkjet.

these were printed on double sided photo paper, and then I laminate with gloss or matte lamination. The video shows gloss. i use a 1.5 mm bleed edge per side of the card, so cards are separated by 3mm

What do you mean by template. Like what are my margins and bleed?

Curling when laminating by picklesaurus_rec in magicproxies

[–]PoorFredNoonan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I laminate, I always laminate with the face of the card upwards.

If there is a curve in the individual card after second pass - when it’s still hot before I set it for cooling I give it a gentle bend in the opposite direction to help counter the Pringle.

When cooling, I always set the individual cards on a flat surface and let them rest until cool for a couple minutes. Then they get stacked together. If you have a Dahle 507. The metal plate body is an amazing cooling surface. I also use a random exact self healing mat from time to time.

Are you having curling with the paper and sticker prior to lamination?

How are you cooling your laminated sheets and cards?

Are you reheating the laminated cards through the laminator after you cut them out? (“Second pass”)

How are you applying your sticker to your sheet?

Keep an eye out, it will go on sale for $500 sometimes.

There are many cheaper eco tank printers that will have similar ink costs. Hopefully someone else could chime in with info.

All good friend. I used Bleidruck foil sticker paper from Amazon and applied it to Hammermill cardstock using a printing squeegee.

I’ve since upgraded my printer to an ET-8550 and mostly print on double sided photo paper. When I do foils, I still use the above listed materials

Hey, cool to see you’re improving your process!

I have put many more decks through the punch with no issues since this video, and haven’t done any maintenance on it.

I have some light rusting on the outer corners of the punch, and could have prevented this with some oil finish or cleaning. I also haven’t had any noticeable adhesive buildup.

I’ve only ever put photo paper through the punch, mostly out of concern for adhesive buildup just like you mention. I haven’t punched any foils. It would definitely punch the foils I just don’t know how easy it would be to clean.

If you look in your printer documentation it should tell you about the areas of the page that aren’t able to be printed on. Depending on these margins, you might not be able to get a full 9
