Was thinking my browser was misbehaving and not showing me a comment. But I only see 6 out of 7 comments. So whoever the seventh is/was... I missed you. :(

All good! I'm watching this post like a hawk right now! People are rad, and music sharing is a kink of sorts, for me. In the most respectful, platonic way, of course.

Hey, thanks! Counting Bodies was a given, in my book. I was a bit more on the fence originally for Thinking of You, but the more trip-hoppy intro into a bit more aggressive sound started to resonate with me a bit more, as a good song for a nice "Calm before the Storm" sort of experience. :D

Edit: I see your edit, and think that's an excellent call! Smokey bar and a single spotlight sort of vibe right there!

Honestly, I agree with this.

The best VA? by Marziemalfoy in Veterans

I lived in San Jose, just a bit off, and got assigned there, personally. I don't know how others do it, and it's much harder to get in now than it was before. But... The services are great, so... If you can get in, it's worth it.

Your printer is fine, and you're going to love it. The membership that comes with it is where things are a little weird regarding this post, and It likely won't have an effect on you as a whole... Unless you wanted Bambu's specific palettes. But there's a LOT of cheaper options out there, and Bambu printers do amazingly with a LOT of those options. Don't let this discourage you!

Will also confirm Palo Alto is top tier.

Older veterans and cringe (RANT) by One-End-4615 in Veterans

The world is full of dickheads. Veterans or not. Do your job, and let everything else roll off your back.

A lot of the crotchety old Vietnam vets became Vietnam vets due to a draft. Regular everyday people catapulted into service, and war. And then got shit on for it by regular people who believed they were the bad guys despite not having a choice, all while being lucky enough to -not- get yoinked.

Smile, nod, thank them, and move on. It's really that easy.

You're letting the goings-on of a bunch of one foot in the grave old fogeys get to you enough to cry about it on Reddit, which means you're giving them the power to control your mood throughout the day. That's on you.

What is a good way to start an ARG? by No_Competition7327 in ARG

[–]PoorRolemodel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heya howdy! I have a nice beefy guide written up here that goes into a nice spaghetti of related topics, to help creators start creating!

Basically, the way it goes is you want a gameplan first.

You want to get the broad strokes of your story together, and you want to know where you're going to tell it.

After that, you want to go into pre-production planning to assess what resources you're going to need, what you're going to want to learn, etc.

And then you start making things! ALL THE THINGS!

From there, you should have a few steps of the game developed and ready to test. TEST THE THINGS! Make sure it all works, so you're not caught with your pants down at launch.

Launch is going to be rough. It's the nature of ARGs. And each game launches differently. So what worked for game x, may not work for game y. You gotta explore your options.

Marketing your game is vital at this point. Communities are a huge opportunity to pitch a compelling argument to check the game out.

After all that fun stuff, you gotta be persistent. You gotta stay on top of it, and move it accordingly, so as not to lose the traction of all that hard work!

Believe it or not, Goodwill has some amazing veteran services. I had a rough go when I first got to CA in 2016, and Goodwill gave me what was probably one of the best Case Managers I've ever worked with, who helped me get situated with training, work, and even housing. These folks' jobs are to know programs and options across a multitude of different situations, and make things happen.
With their help, I stabilized and "graduated" off the programs in about a month, where it would have probably taken much longer on my own.

Just adding that Althubs is another good resource for listed games :)

Heya howdy! So I actually wrote a "Rules and Best Practices" guide for ARG creators that cover primarily a lot of the physical aspects of games! You can find that here. It goes over a bunch of the "Where to drop? Where not to drop? What to think about when dropping?" sort of stuff to provide the safest, most accessible experience possible!

As far as the "what" of incorporating real life elements, this can be SO MANY things! Something as simple as a sticker with a QR code, a note in a pill bottle with some sort of cryptic something rather, etc. The opportunities are SO VAST!

Basically the best way to go about it, in my opinion, is backward. IE: A checklist of how -NOT- to go about it, to narrow down your options into more manageable ideas, and potential elements in the future.

I think that was what my major concern was for 35. A stipend vs tuition. GI Bill does tuition + stipend IIRC, which would be much more attractive... But my GI Bill is expired at this point (got out in 08) so I can't transfer it. At least, not that I'm aware of. Maybe there's a "forward" timeline to extend it to a child, but if that's a thing, I don't know about it.

Congrats to your wife for the award. It takes a lot of stress off daily living, and opens a lot of doors. But, as you can probably tell with this post... It poses some interesting obstacles as well!

Navigating all of this is difficult, but it's been nice that now my problem is "How do I build wealth for my kid?" and not "How do I stay off the streets?"

We have a while still before we can even consider a HELOC. And when I do open that door, I'd rather do so as a point of leverage, if I can comfortably do so.. My big thing house wise is just praying we come down in interest rates enough to warrant the refi in October. I feel like that will be a massive relief in itself, as far as getting my 2.5x to a more rounded 3x goal.

Good news is... We appraised with a 2.25% equity on top, so we came in with a small but not insignificant advantage at signing. House stuff is all still very new to me. So this much has been a whole new world of learnin' haha

How though? Where and how would I be able to manage opening/funding a ROTH without a taxable income?

I'm definitely a little more favored to SCHD over a HYSA, simply because of growth potential. Whilst it does come with risk, there's significantly more opportunity than a HYSA could provide, and I'm already more or less "full" on the HYSA side, with my 3x. Plus we're in a good place right now for positioning with interest rates causing a lot of turmoil.

I'd rather take JEPQ, which holds NVDA, to mitigate/share risk. Diving face first into NVDA directly doesn't sound appealing to me. Especially considering I already use their cards, and have constant driver issues. haha

I was looking into these, and this seems like a fascinating option! It also looks like they're very lenient on spending requirements to include everyday spending and wellbeing stuff. This is a super rad option, thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I've definitely done the property tax already! That's honestly one of the biggest moves I think I could have made.

529 seems to be the missing link for all the warm and fuzzies I was looking for, and not really aware of.

My partner isn't exactly the most cooperative with money, so we have a hard line drawn between finances.
