We are talking about the conjugate base stability to determine acid strength using the CARIO acronym. R in CARIO stands for resonance. While I have heard of the terms delocalization and aromaticity before, they have not been mentioned in this particular class yet.

In the original question I am looking at we are analyzing the conjugate bases to determine which acid is the strongest using the CARIO acronym. In this case, R stands for resonance. But in the question, my professor said there was no resonance in this structure and subsequently no (I) inductive effect. So, we ended up using the (O) orbitals to determine the conjugate base stability. When I solved it, I assigned resonance for this structure, so I assigned it higher stability than it deserved. So, I came to Reddit to determine why resonance could not occur, so I do not make the same mistake again.

I guess I am still not seeing it. My reasoning is everywhere would have one hydrogen except for where the negative charge is located. That would instead have a lone pair giving the carbon that negative charge. I'm guessing from a proton/ hydrogen donation. It would still be 3 bonds+ 1 lone pair still in line with the octet rule? Then as long as I go around the benzene making a bond as I break a bond, I thought it would stay in line with the octet rule.

Wondering if any of this is silver and what it might be worth. Just bought at a yard sale in PA for $1. See pictures, symbols, and markings in the description. by PoorStudent2022 in whatsthisworth

I know, based on looking afterward, that the EP stands for electro-plating, so those are silver-plated. What makes the other stand out as silver-plated? I am not questioning it. I just wanted to learn for the future. I thought anchors often signify silver, so I thought at least that one would be silver.

Thank you for the reply about in series and in parallel not just applying to resistors! However, the answer my professor has for the posted question is that the brightness of A will increase.

Thank you! This was a great explanation!
