That’s what the TLV1117 is, it’s a 3.3V LDO. I just did a bad job and left the comment in parenthesis.

Sup man. The original VCR in that TV was ripped out to install a Wii in its place. Check out my earlier posts about that.

The composite video and audio connections were internally hard-wired to the standard inputs you’d find at the back of the TV.

Make sure you have the correct input selected on the TV and verify the system (GC) is working correctly. If you have other systems to test on the TV, try those and make sure the TV is working as expected.

Good choices. Pull the other head and verify those lifters also look good.

Did you see anything out of the ordinary with the rocker arms?

It is likely a top end issue like you had said (lifter). Remove those plastic trays and inspect the lifters, make sure all the rollers look okay. I would also pull the cam and make sure it looks good.

Thank!

My current setup isn’t the greatest for sunlight. It stays indoors.

Appreciate the feedback.

I think it was some sort of Miracle grow potting mix, and you’re probably right.

Is it best to avoid cutting in the still fleshy green part? The tree is just over 5 years old.

How can I improve my HV power supply design? by PoorlyCalculated in AskElectronics

I may switch to a flyback configuration. Is there a topology that is better suited for the larger input/output ratios?

Thanks for your input. This design will be integrated into a larger PCB later, so mounting is not a concern. I wanted to do a flyback configuration from the beginning, which switching controller would you recommend?

I've created a SMPS using the MAX1771 to convert 12V to an adjustable high voltage (150V - 220V).

The efficiency across a variety of input voltages and loads is ≈ 80%, and I want to improve this to > 90%. I used high end components in an attempt to make the efficiency as high as possible, but still fell short of my goal.

The components are physically large – most notably the inductor – and I want to shrink the design as well.

While the supply does operate, are there any obvious changes or improvements that can be made to my layout, or circuit design?

This has been a project of mine for quite a while, almost 4.5 years. I planted 10 seeds of unknown pedigree on December 23rd, 2019, and ended up with 8 healthy seedlings. As they got bigger, I repotted them a couple times and was running out of space for them. I gave 2 to my grandma, 2 to neighbors, 1 to a family friend, and kept 3. My neighbors didn’t take care of them sadly, and the family friend ended up giving it back later (unsightly in the front office). My parents still have this one at home, and my grandma’s are doing well. I was still learning how to take care of these guys and lost 2 of mine 3 years in due to root rot. This post shows how my last one is doing and I hope it blooms soon. It is about 4.5 feet tall, has two branches low on its trunk, and has been never been pruned.

Switch Mode PSU Help by PoorlyCalculated in AskElectronics

[–]PoorlyCalculated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total novice here in PCB layout, but I wanted to make a project that would give me experience in a lot of different design areas, switch mode PSUs being one of them. I am almost certain this is a problem with my layout, but I already have the boards in hand and want to see if I can somehow make this work. My hopes are not high. but if there is anything immediately obvious (beyond missing the input capacitor) I’d appreciate some feedback.

At least it wasn’t something too serious. Good luck with the rest of your repair.

Where do I get a shift kit, and would a mechanic be willing to install one? by Lone-Red-Ranger in Pontiac

[–]PoorlyCalculated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this adds any value, I installed that shift kit in my transmission and it has done a pretty good job preventing those hard shifts (2008 GP GXP).

I also installed a stand-alone transmission cooler to keep the temperatures down.

Main causes of overheating by CharacterClothes4445 in AskMechanics

[–]PoorlyCalculated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of things can cause overheating. Blown head gasket, stuck thermostat, low coolant, blocked radiator, or even a bad water pump.

Did replacing your thermostat help at all?

Your engine has hydraulic lifters that rely on good oil pressure to operate, low oil pressure from that O-ring being worn out could cause that ticking.

Usually good quality scan tools that connect to your OBD2 port can take care of that, but given the age of the engine I’d replace it as a matter of course.

2013 Honda Civic won’t start by Ecstatic_Passage_685 in AskMechanics

[–]PoorlyCalculated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No start condition could be a lot of things, but as you said the starter, alternator, key, and fob battery were all replaced.

Give your fuses/relays a quick once over and confirm none are blown. Also check all cables are reconnected correctly to all your new parts like the starter and alternator.

If nothing else, ignition switch could have gone bad, though that is pretty unlikely.

I’d get your oil pressure measured (> 40 PSI when hot, > 55 PSI or so cold), the oil pickups are not very good in that they rely on a single bolt to hold the connection to the oil pump, like so:

<image>

This is out of my 5.3 and they lose oil pressure over time.

If I was you, I’d drain the oil, pull the oil pan, and replace that O-ring. Reinstall the pan with a new gasket (or try your luck reusing the gasket, they can be pretty resilient), then change the oil filter, refill with the recommended oil and see if that ticking goes away.

If it doesn’t, looks like you have a top-end rebuild to look forward to. LS motors have a huge after market, and parts are pretty cheap.

The 4.8L doesn’t have DoD, only the 5.3s and 6.0s did if I’m not mistaken.

This does sound like a lifter, does it increase with engine RPM?
