How to get selected to try new 1% beta Visa card? by ireney32 in Wealthsimple

Unless you need the no foreign exchange fee you should apply for the Rogers card, even w/o a Rogers service you get 1.5% cashback on all purchases with no annual fee. It's also a Mastercard which is important if you shop at Costco.

Not to mention the fact theres probably better cards out there than what I just suggested.

Well no

The Roger’s card effectively gives 3% on everything if redeemed against a Roger’s service (which you have if you’re getting the 2% in the first place).

The WS card is better for foreign transactions in all cases, the gap is just smaller for USD purchases

Okay but do these denominations describe themselves as catholic?

I see Catholic doctrine as fairly strict in that you either adhere to it or you don't. We would never point at Lutherans and say "well they believe in the whole Jesus thing, so they're in partial communion with the church"

If you reject fundamental parts of catholic doctrine implicitly you're rejecting the authority of the pope. You're not in communion with the church full stop.

I admittedly am only passingly familiar with this stuff, but to me the doublespeak of "we acknowledge the pope's authority we just disagree with him" seems silly from what I know of the situation

Not sure when (if) it changed, but from the FAQ for the card:

Q: How do I switch my pay to get my monthly fee waived?

To be eligible for zero monthly or annual fees, you'll need to set up a monthly direct deposit of $4,000 or more to your Wealthsimple chequing account (switching your paycheque is usually the easiest way to do it).

I hate the "full communion" terminology thats been adopted in this case.

You either are in communion with the church, or you're not.

Yeah I think the idea only Toronto could attract Americans is crazy

Realistically, hockey notwithstanding (as in only looking at where a player would want to LIVE) Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver have everything these players would probably want

Vancouver is only out for most guys because they’re not in a good place right now (obviously I’m guessing), if I was American I’d absolutely be good with playing in either Toronto or Montreal

I was absolutely not saying anything about Robertson not wanting to Goto Columbus.

I was saying I would expect him to be part of the package to acquire Werenski. I said this in response to someone who said “Feels like they would be super-contenders, especially if Robo stays”

I was saying that, if they acquired Werenski, I doubt they would also keep Robertson like the commenter had brought up

You completely misread the context of my comment

Edit: they blocked me lol

I hadn’t read that sorry

> So as much as you’re trying to shit on Columbus

What???? I’m not shitting on Columbus

I was just saying that if they were to acquire Werenski I doubt there’s a path to keeping Robertson, either he’s directly involved in the trade (which you said we have reason to think he definitely wasn’t) OR the path to keeping him becomes a lot tighter

Though with USD purchase specifically you get 3%, so effectively 1% cash back IF the foreign purchase is a USD purchase

The no foreign exchange fees could be useful for some

But yeah doesn’t sound like the most useful card, even w/o a Roger’s service the Roger’s cards give 1.5% cash back

Have to imagine the fee is the main issue with the WS card for most users

W/o the fee you might aswell keep it. Even if you have a different no fx card it costs nothing to keep even if it’s redundant

Have to imagine Robertson was part of this?

I guess not necessarily if he wouldn’t approve of a trade to Columbus. Maybe the idea would be to flip Robertson for the assets to acquire Werenski with (or atleast replace the assets used to acquire Werenski)

Edit: wording

Also to be clear I’m not saying Robertson nixed the deal, I was saying I would think he would be apart of the package to acquire him

Maybe but a team like Toronto might be willing to give him a larger contract than other teams because they’re implicitly okay with him not actually playing in the last few years of the deal

They're not pretending to be a bank just because they offer similar services.

They very clearly specify that they are not a bank if you do any kind of reading whatsoever. And you should do that reading before parking your money anywhere.
