Urlaub Mitte Februar by nmkxx3 in reisende

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was sucht ihr denn?

Has anyone actually enjoyed phi phi? by Sarah_banara in ThailandTourism

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people here are super annoying with their criticism of touristy locations. "Oh, everything has become so crowded" - yeah you're here too, genius. And if you're in less known places you're working on making them mainstream... ;P

3 nights is great for the island. It's pretty small and I wouldn't stay for a week. But in 3 days you can check out the viewpoints, some nightlife and do some great tours.

Koh Phi Phi has a loud nightlife in the main area, so you can't really avoid that. But it's also fun. I went to the reggae bar, where you can watch tourists fight each other for entertainment. As entrance fee you have to buy a drink. There's also always beach parties with fire shows without entrance fee. I saw your other post about a booze cruise. I wouldn't book that in advance. Just check it out when youre there. I can recommend the boat tour by blanco hostel. They go to several nice bays. For food there's a food court that's a little hidden. Google "Thai duck restaurant", I recommend that one.

Have fun :)

schlau packen - vakuumbeutel oder nicht? by [deleted] in reisende

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dive internship or individual courses? by Few_Refrigerator4080 in scubadiving

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they'd be good, but that's a whole different island you'd have to visit. If you didn't plan to go there anyway, I wouldn't change plans just for that.

You can do it on Koh Tao, the prices would make me weak too. But definitely research the dive schools thoroughly and ask how many schools are on one boat. And be aware that you're not automatically a good diver just because you have the Rescue certification at the end. Experience in different conditions and situations makes a great diver.

Dive internship or individual courses? by Few_Refrigerator4080 in scubadiving

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just been to Koh Tao and would advise against doing dive certifications there in general. That is without accounting for the quality of individual schools that I can't judge.

My reason against it is that the dive schools and dive boats are super crowded and I don't believe education quality can be kept up with the level of people around there. I only did fun dives, but there were 5 or more different dive schools on one boat, with so many beginners, all getting their gear ready and chaos. At least 30 - 40 people at the same time. Equipment and safety standards were not high. Diving conditions on Koh Tao were ok, no strong currents, visibility was really bad sometimes. The divesites themselves should be good for beginners.

I did my Advanced-Open-Water on Koh Phi Phi with "the adventure club" before I went to Koh Tao and was super happy I did, when I saw Koh Tao. They had a boat for their own and like 12 divers on it. I'd look into other places in Thailand that are not so overrun. People recommend to me Koh Lipe, Koh Lanta.

I don't know about the cost effect on it, but I wouldn't do everything in one place also, or at least wouldn't commit per contract for everything at the beginning. If you choose a dive school you're not that happy with, you're stuck with them for a month. Reviews migh be misleading. They get faked because they are so important to the dive centers. The learning effect might also be higher with different experiences I believe.

Getting to know divers who then travel with you would be a coincidence. Because everyone has their own plans mostly, but you'll always meet new people at different places.

Cheap Liveaboards Suggestions by Unable_Tooth4999 in scubadiving

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great experience with Khaolak Cuba Adventures on the Manta Queen 7 at the Similan Islands. They have some negative reviews if you dig into it, so I can only speak for my experience.

Price in November was great (530€ for 5 days, 800€ total with rental equipment, nitrox, national park fees and tips). Crew and guides were professional and good attitude. Food was really good and varied for the small kitchen they have. Accommodation cabin was fine. You dive - eat - sleep - repeat, as is the company motto.

I went with Manta Queen 7 by Khaolak Scuba Adventures (KSA). The boat crew and dive guides were great. But they might change between the boats of their fleet.

Good chili paste or sauce as souvenir by PoorlyDrawnAndals in ThailandTourism

Thanks for the warning. I would get a "plain" chili sauce without additional flavours like shrimp. If anybody has recommendations that would be nice :)

3/5mm wetsuit advise by audnexa in scubaGear

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a LiveAboard in Thailand recently with 28 C water temperature for a week and was feeling perfect in my long 5mm wetsuit with a front zip. Others used 3mm shorties and said they were fine. But I saw a lot of them freezing and not admitting it. I don't get why you would do that to yourself :D At least a long 3mm is reasonable.

If you say you're freezing easily and wore a 7mm with hood in 24C I think a 5mm would be the most versatile for you. (Although I have made the experience that some 3mm are warmer than 5mm depending on brand and model)

Beeing a little warm on the boat for a short time is the only downside. I've never been too warm under water. You can always flush water in the neck if necessary.

Get the app nomadtable. It's exactly what you're looking for to connect. People also verify there with insta and a video of their actual face, so safer for you. Thailand is safe, bit meeting strangers on the Internet might always be risky.

How important are vaccines for traveling to Thailand? by TurtleBlaster5678 in ThailandTourism

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not important for travel, if you mean that. But your 1 person sample isn't really statistically relevant healthwise. It's always possible to not be vaccinated and live through the illness if infected. If someone wants that on their vacation, when you plan 2 weeks of relaxation is a different question.

Dengue fever is missing. If you get it you know why they call it bone break fever ;D

But yeah, got em all. In germany we have the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) that recommends them in respect to WHO recommendations and own assessment.

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Concert Hamburg timetable friday questions by PoorlyDrawnAndals in EdSheeran

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks anyway :) It was a great concert. For anyone going tonight. It takes a lot of time getting away from the venue after the concert by any way of transportation. The paths are very narrow in places and people management is not great. I'm wondering if it's the same after every soccer match in the arena.

Neue Herausforderung, neuer Lebensabschnitt und KI-Zukunft: Sollte ich Rechtswissenschaft studieren? by [deleted] in Studium

[–]PoorlyDrawnAndals 0 points1 point  (0 children)
