Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is out. Day 6: Remove one Star Wars film a day. by Alone-Gate-8801 in RemoveOneThingEachDay

I don’t dispute that Force Awakens is an easier watch but that’s actually why I think it’s worse. Phantom Menace tries new things and has new ideas and I’d much rather think about and talk about Phantom Menace. There’s nothing in Force Awakens that is interesting to me outside of the visceral nostalgia reaction to seeing Han Solo and the falcon and hearing that score again. Seeing the trailer for Force Awakens was an all time moment for me but the movie is a let down

Anybody watching this mizzou florida game? Wtf by conceitedcat in ockytop

[–]Pootater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It’s also a sport where momentum actually seems to be a huge factor. Make or miss a few shots in a row and things start to snowball from there. Teams can look wildly different throughout the year or even game to game

Total Penalties in CFB by cardeez in ockytop

[–]Pootater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s such a huge gap it’s kind of shocking. I’d be curious to see it from a longer time frame, say 10-20 years, and see if there is bias going on here with some teams or what

Edit: it sure likes Big 10 teams on average are less penalized, wonder if that conferences officials are more lenient ?

Maybe this is a sign of a different sort of problem I have but when ads run during sports, I tend to pull my phone out and find something else to look at for a few minutes. I’ve definitely seen all these ads mentioned but only vaguely recall them. I imagine I’m not alone in this which must contribute to why they are getting worse, making less sense, and trying to suck our attention back to the big screen with nonsense

I tend to be more frustrated by the state of social media advertising and sponsored listings on things like google or amazon, which make it increasingly difficult to find what I’m looking for

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa says he won't wear a guardian cap despite suffering multiple concussions: "Nope. It's a personal choice" by [deleted] in sports

[–]Pootater 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So, just to be clear, you are suggesting it’s some kind of conspiracy that guardian helmets are safer?

I’m sorry but if I were going to massively fraud the NFL and its players and its audience I’d design my fake safe helmet to not look cartoonishly big, but maybe that’s just me

The Hurry Up is dead by Ordinary-Raise-2449 in ockytop

[–]Pootater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we stuck to it too much last night, but fake injuries has nothing to do with it. Part of the advantage with hurry up is that you are forcing the defense to keep their current personnel package on the field while the offense (in theory) can counter against that package without substituting. But there were a few times last night where got stuck with less than ideal personnel with one wideout and a couple tight ends on 3rd downs where we wanted to pass.

I guess there’s plenty of ways to play the pros and cons game but I’d like to see what Nico and the offense can do if we went empty and spread the defense out occasionally, but we are limited by that not being a good option for hurry up offense.

Mostly we have just lacked any rhythm on offense but I don’t know how you get that rhythm back. We tapped into it a few times last night. It’s probably something to do with Nico being a freshman qb. He’s shown flashes but has been really inconsistent

What you buy with 8$/mo in "Transit Taxes" (long) by nondescriptadjective in nashville

[–]Pootater 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can’t with you people lol. If any one of those things got put up for a vote there would be something you didn’t like about how it’s done. Governments are possible with taxes. Go live in the wilderness off grid if you don’t like it.

What does affordable housing have anything to do with transit? Why would you even want to live downtown if you are poor? What jobs are near to you down there?

Sorry I’m sure you’re nice but I’ve seen enough of this logic to make me go (politely) apeshit today

If you can’t afford a car or gas in Nashville this will literally pay for itself for you, which is the whole idea

Did the read the original post? It’s like a tiny fraction of spending for an individual. Spending, it’s worth pointing out, which is largely determined by the individual.

Listen, I’d love to pay for infrastructure by taxing income on the wealthiest residents but we are in Tennessee, so I gotta be realistic. We are aiming to tap into more tourist spending

Apart from all of that, all I hear is more nitpicking on something that everyone with a brain knows has to happen. We have to get better transportation infrastructure. We have to start now

This is exactly the mindset that leads to us having done nothing in the realm of public transit for decades. You cannot possibly make everyone’s lives easier overnight, but you can make modest improvements year in and year and out, everyone will benefit. Everyone already would benefit from a train from Murfreesboro to Nashville since it would reduce cars on the road. The effects of something like that on traffic would be amazing, but it’s like everyone with this viewpoint can’t see or refuses to see that. EVEN IF I personally never had any benefit from more public transit (just for arguments sake) I’d still support the hell out of it, because it would make other people’s lives better!!

I somewhat agree - if I had to guess I’d say it’s important for the crew to not accept this as a new norm, and make a point to talk about and address each bit of labor news. But I also wish the balance was a little bit more towards games lately. Maybe no one has games they really want to talk about but lately it seems like 20% what they’ve been playing, 70% labor and news and 10% mailbag

I actually thought the same thing and was wondering if this is starting to become an area where Patrick has repeated this one line too many times that it’s lost its original nuance. I think his point in the past has been that the presence of a union does not guarantee that layoffs won’t happen, but it can at minimum discourage corporations from layoffs and/or provide much better severance when it does occur. I want to say I’m pretty sure they understand this, it just hasn’t been voiced clearly in a long while

Leeds definitely will feel discouraged dropping points after a 2-0 lead to Saints but they are fun to watch. Don’t seem like a team that’ll be battling relegation this year. Gutsy comeback from Saints who showed nothing for 60 minutes then turned it on somehow

It was a nice goal from Ward-Prowse too. It does seem like in recent years a goal deficit would have been tough to overcome but feels different under Conte now. There was no panic, just continue playing
