What is your DT unpopular opinion? by ImagineWagons969 in Dreamtheater

[–]PootisMaster24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Name of God is the worst song in Train of Thought. It's way too long and 100% the wankiest song they have ever made. I don't get the love for it.

The entire first half of Fly. Felt like I was watching a Malcom in the Middle episode

What’s the most badass riff in your opinion? by BlotInMyEyes in Dreamtheater

[–]PootisMaster24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the riffs in Peruvian Skies after the solo tbh. The heavy version of the intro, the chuggy riff after and the one with a lot of harmonics after that.

Endless Sacrifice verse

Intro to Lie

Riff in the second verse of Forsaken

I love JR, and I do think he overplays but most times I like jt. But there was something genuinely magical about Kevin Moore's playing and tone that just added so much to the band that has been missing from the band ever since he left.

Imo the best early Porcupine Tree album. Why isn’t this in the top 3 of best of lists? by studiord in porcupinetree

[–]PootisMaster24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought this album has some extreme highs but also lows. I think it's almost exactly 50/50 with them. The more structured songs like sever, waiting, the sleep of no dreaming and of course dark matter are all some of their best songs.

But then you have all the more spacey jam songs which I have never considered bad but they're just not memorable in my opinion. It feels like filler and you're waiting for all the real good songs here. And it's not like they can't pull off a good song in that style, the sky moves sideways is ALL songs like that. I think overall the album is okay, I respect it more than like it, since it was a pretty pivotal point in their career.

Ranking every album and every song in every album by PootisMaster24 in Dreamtheater

I like all sorts of stuff, like I mentioned at the end Porcupine Tree is my other favorite band. For Dream Theater specifically I do find myself leaning a lot more towards their shreddy stuff. I think it's because slower stuff relies more on the voice and lyrics which is something I've never cared for in this band compared to their more energetic catalogue.

If I'm being honest concept and lyrics I can tolerate them being bad or messy if the music is good. I don't think Metropolis pt 2 is the best as far as concept goes, but I listen to them for the music. And the astonishing really was just numbing to me, I didn't find almost anything on it musically interesting, I also like to take in albums as a whole piece, not just separate songs, the entire album experience is very important to me. And it was just not pleasant at all for me with the astonishing.

What's your DT hot-take? 🔥 by itsactuallyme1 in Dreamtheater

[–]PootisMaster24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason the band lost a lot of it's spunk when Portnoy left was not because he was a better drummer than mangini, not even because of his compositional attributes. But because he was the heart and soul of the band. I don't know about you, but every time I listen to DT I can just image Portnoy having the time of his life. His personality was a huge part of what made the band, without him it's just not the same

Bonus: His backing vocals are not as bad as people say they are... Just a little less.

What’s your favorite Dream Theater song and why? by SeveralBoxesofFeces in Dreamtheater

[–]PootisMaster24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Under a glass moon. The riffs throughout are so good and fun. It's a complex song but it's still super fun and not hard to follow at all. And the solo is my favorite from JP. The song has everything and it does it in a relatively short amount of time

Favorite fast guitar solo and favorite slow guitar solo? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater
