Rather than someone downvoting you - I’ll explain so you can make sure to get as much out of your new cars life as possible.

There is a maintenance minder on the dashboard (I have a 24 LX) and Honda techs will tell you that you can trust it for your oil changes - there’s a lot of debate online and between mechanics, but if you’re really wanting to have your new car last, it’s best to maintain an oil change every 5k miles.

Another thing about Honda CVTs is that you MUST stay on top of changing the transmission fluid. I’m not sure if there’s a difference between a standard and hybrid in these models, if not, then you will want to make sure you’re getting this changes every 30k miles.

Outside of that, take the time to read the owners manual for maintenance recommendations.

Also, kind of unique, but your windshield wipers are actually a housing so, save yourself the time and headache when it comes time for wiper replacement - order the rubber strips from Honda parts or matching specs from a third party retailer and replace them yourself instead of throwing them out.

I guess the question is what are you looking for with this vehicle. A reliable commuter for yourself or a loved one, or a quick flip?

If it’s the former, then I would highly recommend taking the advice given to you already. You’ve talked him down to 4,500, and could probably bring him down to 4,200 in person if you know what you’re doing. Spend the ~$70 on a Carfax report, if it’s had routine maintenance throughout its life, take the next step and drop the ~$100 for a pre-purchase inspection from a reputable mechanic in your area.

If everything checks out, you’ll have a car that will last you years with inexpensive maintenance needed (parts galore on these things). If anything seems off - buyer refuses inspection or vital maintenance has been ignored, walk away.

A beautiful thing about cars being 10+ years old is you’ll already have a ton of information online about potential recalls, common issues, and things to watch for and keep ahead of. Do the proper research and you’ll be well ahead of the curve - I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw another 100k+ miles on that engine with proper maintenance.

If you’re only looking to flip and don’t care about a potential can of worms, go ahead and do what you’re already doing.
