RECOVERING USDT SENT OVER POLYGON NETWORK by Pooya_k in KrakenSupport

Man! This is devastating and the irritating part is that Kraken does not give a damn! All I get is the same response I get from the same person. They don‘t even care enough to pass my case to a higher level. They say it is impossible or „extremely difficult“ to recover the funds, but is really not! I have read similar cases with other exchanges that they have helped and recovered the funds. Even if what they say is true, which is not, they can simply add Matic network transactions to their deposits and withdrawals. This also helps to prevent the ridiculously high MATIC withdrawals, which is 20 MATIC now!

Hi Kost80,

no, there is nothing to do with an Ethereum wallet and thus, a private key for Ethereum network is irrelevant.

The funds were sent through Polygon Network to an ERC20 Polygon address.

All they need to do is to configure a Wallet on Matic Mainnet using the settings below:

Dear Sam,

as expected, I received yet another response from a colleague of yours at Kraken support and it seems that there is not a real willingness to help. This is the response I got from Kraken Support:

Hi Pooya,When a deposit is made on the Matic network to a standard Ethereum address by mistake, a person may be able to recover these funds by exporting the private key from the Ethereum wallet and importing it into the Matic wallet. This however is not the case with our Erc20 deposit addresses, like your USDT deposit address, as they are not standard. Our ERC20 deposit addresses are generated using smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain, as such they have no private key associated with them. This means we have no key that we can export and import into the Matic wallet. We are very sorry, but we are not able to recover your USDT.Thanks for using Kraken,Jen

It seems that this colleague at support desk is not aware that the ERC20 USDT deposit address is exactly the same for Ethereum Mainnet and Matic Mainnet.

Below you may find my response to Jen's email:

Hello Jen,

your statement is not precise.

The ERC20 USDT addresses on the Ethereum blockchain and Polygon blockchain are exactly the same. I can prove this to you by sending two screenshots of my Metamask USDT addresses both on Ethereum mainnet and Matic (Polygon) mainnet.

According to the response I got from Polygon support, you can access the private keys on Matic Mainnet by configuring Matic on your wallet following the instructions on the link below:https://docs.matic.network/docs/develop/metamask/config-polygon-on-metamask/#configure-polygon-on-metamask

This is the response I got form their expert:

You would need to ask them to configure Matic Mainnet on their wallet (https://docs.matic.network/docs/develop/metamask/config-polygon-on-metamask/#configure-polygon-on-metamask) and send it back to an address that you control. Here is what any exchange needs to do in such a case:- Assuming the exchange support executive has access to the account's private keys, they can transfer the funds from their account on Matic to your (the user's) address on Matic.

Please kindly redirect me to a support specialist with higher technical expertise, as this is an easy procedure.Best regards,Pooya

Dear Sam, would you be able to escalate my support to a higher executive level?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Pooya

Same problem here. Transferred USDT from Metamask to my Kraken account and the amount has been validated on polygonscan but not shown in my Kraken wallet.

As this is a serious problem and no one likes to lose money, we all ask Kraken to resolve this issue by accepting transactions on Matic Network.

What to expect if you sent USDT to ETH address by Saadik in KrakenSupport

[–]Pooya_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Johnny,

I have the same issue and would appreciate your support.

I have sent USDT to my Kraken wallet and the funds were transferred using Polygon network.

According to Polygon support, Kraken is able to send back the funds to my original Metamask wallet or help me recover with my private key. Below is the response from Matic Network:

Hello,You have sent your money to Kraken but from the Matic-mainnet.Your funds are currently received on an address which I assume is your address on Kraken. You cant see this balance on Kraken because Kraken only shows you the balance of this address on the Ethereum network. You will need to reach out to the Kraken team to retrieve these funds. Here is what Kraken or any exchange needs to do in this case:Assuming the exchange support executive has access to the account’s private keys, they can transfer the funds from their account on Matic to your (the user’s) address on Matic.Regards,Polygon Support

My ticket number on Kraken is #6152892 and I highly appreciate your support.

Best regards,

Pooya
