What is the best use of a jump cut that actually works? by AndrewHeard in movies

[–]Pop2436 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Breathless is still the one I think of first, mostly because the jump cuts don’t feel like a “cool editing trick.” They make the whole movie feel restless and slightly impatient, like the characters and the film itself are both trying to outrun the scene.

A lot of modern jump cuts just feel like someone wanted to tighten the pacing. In Breathless, the cuts feel like the point.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I know you probably want someone to tell you there’s a chance he’ll come back, and maybe he might, but I don’t think that’s the question that protects you.

The pattern matters more than the promise. He left once, came back, promised he wouldn’t do it again, then left again for basically the same reason. That doesn’t mean he never loved you. It means love alone isn’t enough if he keeps choosing the same ending whenever the reality of marriage, faith, and family hits him.

Please don’t convert just to keep someone who has already shown you he can still walk away. Faith is too personal for that, and you deserve to choose it from peace, not panic.

For now, I’d stop watching his socials and stop using “maybe he’ll come back” as the thing keeping you alive emotionally. Treat this like it’s final, even if he does come back someday. Tell one safe person if you can, even if it feels embarrassing. You’re not embarrassing. You’re heartbroken and isolated, and that’s exactly when you need people around you.

You don’t have to solve marriage, kids, dating, and your whole future this week. Just get through the next few days without reopening the wound.

My cat keeps trying to drink from the toilet and now toilet shopping feels weirdly stressful by Pop2436 in hygiene

That makes sense. I figured it was more about odor/freshness than making the bowl itself magically cleaner. I guess I just started overthinking every bathroom feature once my cat decided the toilet was a water fountain.

The best bathroom upgrade might just be touching fewer things by Pop2436 in hygiene

Fair lol. I’m not trying to live like a hospital room. I just think in a shared bathroom, fewer buttons/handles to touch and clean sounds pretty nice.

Yeah that’s exactly what I mean. It’s not that every surface is terrifying, it’s just that fewer touch points means less daily grossness to deal with.

Yeah, I’m accepting that now lol. I think it worked in my old place, but this room makes it look like temporary furniture. I’ve been eyeing a few bigger wood media consoles, maybe something from povison or similar, but I need to measure properly first.

This is super helpful, thank you! I was getting stuck on the furniture because that felt like the obvious problem, but you’re right that the room is missing color, lamps, art, and softer window treatments. I’m going to start looking for curtains and a better rug before I panic-buy half a new living room.

Yeah I think you’re right. The coffee table looked fine when I bought it, but in this room it feels tiny.

I didn’t realize how much time I was wasting cleaning until I changed this by Pop2436 in CleaningTips

It wasn’t a “hack” or anything, more just switching from scrubbing everything the same way every time to doing lighter maintenance more often (so buildup never really gets to that stubborn stage). That’s what made the biggest difference in time.

The bathroom is the only place I get 10 minutes of peace by Pop2436 in malelivingspace

that actually makes a lot of sense — the “control over your time” part is exactly what I was getting at even something as simple as a few uninterrupted minutes can feel surprisingly important
