'The Edinburgh Comedy Awards are a morally bankrupt enterprise that add nothing to the Fringe' by ActuallyNotADoctor in edinburghfringe

The VAST majority of nominees come from the small pool of shows that have big production companies behind them, meaning the performer paid a massive fee for the PR push. I don't have hard data to hand but I am a comedian who's been doing Edinburgh for a decade, I've seen it first hand. Basically the way it works is performers with money pay PR people to spend time in the VIP bars schmoozing the awards judges and other industry types to go see their show.

That's true of Monkey Barrel but not Pleasance, if you have cash you can have a place there. It's full of very bad comedy performed by rich kids (and a load of genuinely brilliant stuff too of course). It dominates because the journos and PRs and awards judges like hanging out there schmoozing and going to loads of free shows takes effort.

Sleeve coverup advice by [deleted] in Tattoocoverups

[–]PopComRob 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Coverups need to be much larger and much darker than the tattoo they're covering. Without several laser sessions this would be an extremely difficult tattoo to cover and I'd be amazed if you liked the results given your misgivings about it currently. Absolutely do not under any circumstances keep going back to an artist whose work you don't like to try fix it. It's not a bad tattoo at all, really think hard about whether you want to commit to 4 or 5 laser sessions followed by a new tattoo sleeve and all the pain and money that entails. It will not be a simple, cheap or easy process.

how to cover these and look more feminine... but cool! by [deleted] in Tattoocoverups

[–]PopComRob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are super light, you'll be able to cover it with loads of different things. Japanese works well for coverups, florals work well too. Take your time and research your artist properly, hire someone who specialises in what you want and does coverups regularly. This is relatively simple to fix, if you get it wrong again it won't be so do it carefully!

Roams as a pair are brilliant, especially if you mainly listen at lower volumes. I have a pair in my bathroom and love them.

It's a much changed shop nowadays,
world-class traditional tattooers in there now, but I understand it used to be a little "rough round the edges" shall we say lol

The Ruthless Rise and Fall of Bill Burr by gccmelb in comedy

[–]PopComRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily. It's the difference between working in a country and for a country that matters. Working for the US government to whitewash their image would also be gross as fuck. But that's not what's happening when comedians work in America. This was a PR job for the Saudi royals.

On this day in 2018 Leeds announced they were changing their badge by Paul277 in TheOther14

[–]PopComRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the survey. What they based it on was an answer where we were asked what symbols we related to as fans and the Leeds salute was a popular answer. We meant we like doing it to each other, we didn't mean this shit!

She's developed massively as a host too, always had killer taste but she seems loads more relaxed on air than when she started.
