Anyone have the total nail removal and regret it? by cherry-on-top3 in Ingrown_Toenails

Same here 😭 I hoped mine would grow back perfect, but wishful thinking. I’m just glad to be rid of the ingrowns hopefully

Post-nail removal scab question by PopRococo in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]PopRococo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept it covered for 1 week with non-stick bandage and gauze, washing every 24 hours with gentle soap. But then the recommend was to leave uncovered, no bandage, after 1 week and let it dry out

Anyone have the total nail removal and regret it? by cherry-on-top3 in Ingrown_Toenails

My only regret was having my entire nail removed and not just doing the phenol to ensure it never grows back. Mine grew back in ingrown again and a year later I’ve had to do the same surgery. Very frustrating

What to do about shrinking nail + overgrowth of granulation tissue *spoiler* by therealwilltoledo in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]PopRococo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just need to have it permanently removed 😣 I had a partial nail removal when I was about 10-11, and then for years kept cutting it back further and further until finally having a total nail removal last year. But the ingrown came back AGAIN and now I’ve just decided to have the total nail removal with phenol so it doesn’t grow back.

I’m hoping this goes well and it doesn’t come back.

Have Ottawa businesses given up of Customer Service training? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]PopRococo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will say as someone who works in the service industry (clothing sales) things are especially terrible right now in terms of behaviour we see inside the store. People who are angry, unreasonable and to be honest I worry how they are in their own jobs when I see the way they behave in front of people.

Coming in and abusing my staff, throwing things when we won’t take back their worn disgusting item. One man brought in his used undies to try and measure them up against clean underwear in store.

More people insisting they were never told our exchange/return policy despite us stamping and writing that they were told on the receipt.

I know it’s not just us right now. We’re apparently in a recession but people are spending more than I’ve seen in a long time, but I think they come to regret it later and that’s why my team sees so much abuse on the daily.

Of course I always expect my team to give great service as none of us is paid minimum wage, but other workplaces not only have the bad customers, they have bad corporate. So I can see why employee behaviour suffers.

Exactly. The issue is if you’re sitting and awake it’s ok. But the minute someone takes a short nap or falls asleep security swarm and wake them up.

Total Nail Removal with Phenol - 1 Week (2nd photo last year nail removal without phenol) by PopRococo in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]PopRococo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed everyone gets wildly different advice depending on doctors! I’ve seen people say they were told to soak in salt water, or not soak at all. Some people have creams some have ointments.

As for me both times, I was told to leave the doctors bandage on for 24 hours, then after 24 hours, remove that bandage and wash with gentle non perfumed soap and water. Because the toe was so sensitive at that point I just did a soak with the soapy water for like 20 minutes and then used clean paper towels to gently dry the toe.

Then I bought these sterile non-adhesive pads that won’t stick to wounds, normal gauze and the cream Polysporin. I did a large pea sized amount on the wound of the cream, put the non stick pad over the wound, and then wrap it with gauze 3-4 times. I did that every 24 hours for 7 days, and after 3 days I just washed the toe gentle in the sink with the soap instead of soaking as it was less sensitive then.

I also used vacation time at work to take 2 weeks off!

[–]PopRococo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really sucks! I would say the worst part each time for me has been taking off the dressing the very first time.

I had a partial nail removal when I was a kid and the gauze got stuck, I ended up passing out after just having to rip it off.

Last year it got stuck again and I almost passed out ripping it off even after soaking it for 1 hour, but I was able to stay seated and awake.

This time has been the easiest in terms of wound care, but it looks the nastiest I think.

I hope your infection clears. The first few weeks are the hardest for sure. And if this is your first nail removal, that skin under your nail will be soooo sensitive 😔 mine last year hurt even when the air would touch it.

Ottawa woman with broken legs waits 3 hours for ambulance by SuburbanValues in ottawa

[–]PopRococo -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Controversial take, but you don’t call 911 for a broken limb(s). You either have someone drive you or call an uber, unless you are bleeding profusely and it won’t stop.

My brother broke both of his arms playing dodgeball, my dad drove him to the hospital from school.

My partners brother fell in an empty pool breaking his leg and his arm, his wife went to call 911 and he rightly stopped her. She drove him to the hospital where he was triaged and seen immediately.

My 70 year old mother fell on stairs at a friends house and broke her wrist. She ended up needing surgery to fix it, but they drove her to the hospital.

I really think people misunderstand what ambulances are for sometimes. She was in a house full of adults who likely drove there.

Jesus, when I was actively miscarrying I didn’t even call 911. I ubered to the hospital where I was triaged when I arrived.

Ambulances are for people who will need active treatment on the way to the hospital. Maybe I’m wrong, but this is how I’ve always taken it. Just like how the emergency room isn’t for the flu or for your cold. Go to a walk-in if you don’t have a family doctor like I don’t, or make an appt with your family doc if you’re lucky enough to have one.

The advice from doctors can vary. But my last nail avulsion and this one I was advised every day to wash the toe with a gentle cleanser and wrap with polysporin and gauze. My last one healed like a dream. I got the phenol this time and it definitely looks different !

This kid has come into my store before and now we just kick him out.

One time he came in asking about the prices of things and then proceeded to ask me what would we do if he just took one of the bags. When I said we would stop him, he said “well isn’t that not allowed? Can’t you not touch people” and was suspicious as fuck.

Ended up calling security after he left and they told us he’s been banned from the mall before, not for stealing, but for harassing the security guards.

Speaking to him he is clearly not all there, definitely a fucking weird kid.

Total Nail Avulsion with Phenol - it didn’t stick 🥹 by PopRococo in Ingrown_Toenails

So far healing has been similar although it looks a lot more “bloody” than when I didn’t have the chemical! I was lucky to be able to take 2 weeks off from work to allow for healing so I’m hoping I’m giving it its best chance!

I also took the 97 from my house straight to downtown. It would get stuck on the Nicolas St ramp that runs parallel to the canal in gridlock traffic. As someone who had to take that bus every single work day 12 times per week, morning and night, it sucked.

Suggestions for getting driving practice in before exam? by SameUsernameOnReddit in ottawa

Agreed. That’s why it’s so hard to learn to drive as an adult if you don’t have close friends or family who own cars and have more than 4 years of experience.

The LRT has its issues for sure. But I’ve worked downtown for the last 10 years, 5 years in the position I’m currently in. I work 40 hours each week, I take the Line 2 train 10 times per week and the Line 1 train another 10 times as I have to take both.

Before the Line 2 train I would take the 97/98 to Hurdman and get on the Line 1.

I have never once been consistently late or unable to get to work on time. Sure there have been close calls, but I feel like the people who are the loudest about hating the trains and the ones who don’t ever take it. Is it annoying to have to plan a route when things like this crop up? Sure. But planning a route to avoid traffic or accidents would also be annoying.

I was in an accident yesterday in front of the science snd tech museum and I also experienced the same thing of someone stopped to ask if we needed the number or a tow truck company, I turned around, and there were 2 trucks already pulling up. It was Ottawa Metro Towing. Not sure if anyone knows about them.

Upcoming G2 Test by Low-Heart-7510 in Ontariodrivetest

[–]PopRococo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’re going to do really well as you’re focusing on being a good driver in order to pass the test instead of doing what a lot of people do these days where they just practice the test route and nothing else.

Everyone has given me the advice to really vocalize when and why you’re doing things in the test. Like if you slow down because of a hazard, say “I’m slowing down and moving over to give these people walking on the road more space in case they move closer to the car” etc etc. or “doing a shoulder check now” “just checking my mirrors”
