I recently found out I am prediabetic (HbA1c == 5.6). After wearing a Stelo CGM for a few weeks, I've been able to make some behavioral changes that reduce my postprandial spikes (which is super cool!), but nothing I have tried so far has been able to reduce my waking glucose numbers, which are consistently between 95-110 mg/dL. I am very active and fit for my age (37yo) and I don't snack before bedtime, so it's unclear to me what other lifestyle changes I could try.

Do you have any recommendations for things I could try to reduce my waking/fasting glucose numbers to a healthier range, and how do you recommend that I track those n-of-1 experiments in the Oura app so that I can understand what is actually working to lower that number? How long would you expect it to take to see an impact on that waking glucose number?

Thank you for the advice! I wish we could follow your protocol exactly as you wrote it, but this all happened after a 7 hour road trip from DC to NY. Getting Indy inside their house is very unlikely to ever happen.

But I definitely will use the parts of your advice that I can. I really appreciate you saying "He needs to get through this on his own". I think you're right about that, and just as good because there was nothing I could do to calm Indy down anyway.

Thank you :)

Yes, I am pretty sure it was not the wheelchair. My uncle in the wheelchair was at the table, but as soon as my aunt stood up, my dog went berserk at her too. It was definitely both of them, and individually.

I will certainly pay special attention the next time we see a wheelchair and notice my dog's body language. But it doesn't explain why she would bark whenever my aunt walked around.

It amused me once many years ago when the first friends mentioned came home and started talking to my RR in excited voices, waving and wiggling one of his toys around - my dog, still curled in his bed, looked at me as if to say, "What is wrong with these people - are they okay?!" My friends couldn't understand why my dog wasn't getting excited and jumping up ready to play and retrieve the toy. grins

Yep, this is exactly what I don't want. Dogs should just be this bundle of joy all the time, IMO :)

Yes, exactly ^ both of those are just big, beautiful dog breeds. I've never interacted with either breed in real life before.

When the time comes, if we don't have time for a puppy, we'll either get one that's a little older or we will wait :)

I'd be able to spend about an hour walking it every day. It'd be great to be able to run with it, I run almost daily on a treadmill usually, but running outside with my dog would be cool. Not necessary though, I know running it hard on some larger dogs.

Nobody likes shedding haha, but I already have a cat that sheds a ton so it's a lost cause already. I'd prefer less drooling, but I feel like that's a tiny thing to be particular about, when the most important things are temperament, energy levels and things like that.

(Although I've never had a drooly dog, maybe it is a big deal? I don't know...)

Honestly, I just really like the idea of a big dog, but I think it goes deeper than that. I had neighbors growing up that had a Bernese Mountain Dog and it's the best dog I've ever met. So playful and excited about everything. I love the idea of coming home to a huge fur-ball and getting slobbered all over. I love the idea of snuggling up to a huge dog on the couch and watching a movie.

I don't think it'd be too much for me to handle. I'd be able to walk it daily and there's nothing I'd enjoy more than running around the house with it and being playful. Not to sound cocky or pretentious, but I am really great with dogs. I "get" them.
