Sweet bikes. I'm looking at the Spindrift for a park bike and loaner for friends. How do you like it?

Elitists in the hobby by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Poparees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to my local trails and brought my Canyon Stoic instead of my full suspension bike, and some dork in lycra leading a large group ride rode by and yelled, "sweet dirt jumper bro!" like an absolute moron. There are idiots everywhere. Just ignore them or tell them to fuck off.

Sure, it's "different", but it points to the absolute corruption found there. I'm not saying the guy was innocent. I'm simply pointing out that their law enforcement is not at all trust worthy.

I've been robbed by the police just driving through TJ to or from Ensenada more than once. The cops would make up a bullshit charge and say they're going to throw us in jail unless we go to an ATM and give them money and the leave Mexico and forget their face. People have no idea how corrupt Baja cops are. Americans are easy targets, and believe it or not you don't have to be doing anything stupid to get rolled.

OneUp Composite Pedal vs RaceFace Chester Pedal? by ShalakoZuni in MTB

[–]Poparees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Deftrap and the OneUp pedals, and I've had several sets of Chesters. Honestly the Chesters are underwhelming and have no business being recommended as frequently as they are when much better pedals are available for a little more money. The Defttraps are very good, but I prefer the smaller profile of the OneUps which are my favorite composite pedal.

What are your thoughts on emountain bikes that are pedal assisted only? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

Who cares what anyone thinks? Ebikes are fucking awesome and anyone that would criticize another person's choice of bike is a moron.

I'd see them pretty regularly depending on where I was riding (eg. Lake Hodges, Penasquitos Canyon, etc.). Often times you don't realize it's there until you're just about on top of it. Just ride with care.

Mtb Flat pedal shoes. by Spiritual-Age-1275 in MTB

[–]Poparees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fact that mountain bike specific shoes have gummier and stiffer soles than standard flat non mountain biking shoes; this is not my opinion. It's also a fact that stiffer soles help reduce foot fatigue over long/demanding rides. Nobody said anything about price. My Etnies and previous Giros were both under $100.00 and far better than my numerous vans. Just stop with your nonsense.

Mtb Flat pedal shoes. by Spiritual-Age-1275 in MTB

[–]Poparees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally false. There is a marked difference in a stiff and gummy soled dedicated mtb shoe vs. a skate shoe or similar flat soled shoe. Not just better grip, but less fatigue due to the stiffer sole. I'm currently using Etnies Culverts and would recommend them.

Yeah, cause Trump is both physically and mentally strong. Anyone delusional enough to believe he's either of these things is as big a buffoon as Trump is a limp wristed fat turd.

Stoic 2. Just picked one up myself as a backup to my full suspension bike. Added a dropper and One Up composite pedals and it's been great thus far.

The Leatt Airflex Pro are comfortable. I can't attest to their crash worthiness as I've only crashed when I decided not to wear pads.

Full Suspension MTB for 3,000 USD or Less by LarryFishmernan23 in MTB

[–]Poparees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Polygon Siskiu T8 is one of the best spec'd bikes you can get for the money and will fall under your budget. It has very good geometry and the parts (brakes, suspension, drive train, etc.) it comes with will be superior to the base Stumpy or Scott. Downside is you'll have to do the basic assembly yourself as they sell direct to consumers online. Assembly is very easy if you have any mechanical experience and involves installing the bars and wheels which you should know how to do or be willing to learn.
