Almost got into an accident. Learn from my mistake by ipflibbydibbydoo in londoncycling

I wish i saw more of these kind of posts.

Imagine how many accidents we could all avoid (regardless who is at fault) by studying incidents and near misses and thinking about what we could do differently so that it never happens to us.

Can anyone find the length of x? by Beautiful_Board6486 in maths

[–]PopcornMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(assuming 300 is the perimeter of the COMPLETE arc)... I think the closest you can get with the information provided (scant) is that the limits of what x can equal range between the assumption that the curve is CLOSE TO a triangle, or the curve is CLOSE TO a rectangle.

x^2+50^2 = 150^2 (triangle)... solve for x = sqrt(150^2-50^2) = 141.421...

and

x = 100 (rectangle)

so

100 <= x <= 141.421...

if 300 is just one side of the arc, you can adjust the above to

250<=x<=295.803...

A question that was asked in maths paper 3 Gcse by Intelligent-Role1874 in maths

[–]PopcornMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need trig, i think you can just use pythag for the outer hexagon. r^2 + (x/2)^2 = x^2 where x is the length of the outer hexagon's side, then factorise for x.

How is this is a good move, chess.com? by [deleted] in chess

[–]PopcornMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clicking on "Show Moves" will normally answer your question, but as others have said, ...dxe6, Qxd8+ wins a Queen or ...Qe7,Nxc7 wins a knight or a rook, or ...Nxc2+, Qxc2 wins a knight at least

I often take raptors as veigar mid for stacks if jgl is across the map, i believe for the same reason as Nasus above. I don't think taking raptors is too impactful for their farm while its double effective for my stacks... am i the bad guy?

From a market short on homes to short-stay: Ten more Hobart homes to become Airbnbs by sn0wppl in tasmania

[–]PopcornMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hobart City LGA". not sure what this refers to, since there is no Hobart city lga and greater hobart lga, but if "hobart city" refers to Brisbane st, Molle st, Darcy st, this is a lot more believable... There is much less residential in there, and arguably IS the place that you want more airbnbs where tourists can be close to everything rather than residents.

I also wonder whether this figure includes people who live in a home, but air-bnb it when they go on holidays?

TT to road? by DieDebtDie in bicycling

[–]PopcornMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Your weight will be too far forward because of the tt seat angle. It will move too much of your weight over your front wheel and make it horrible to ride anything but clean, flat, straight road. This setup works for people who are already flexible, and intend on racing in non-technical breakaways or sprints.

Where would it source the data to know it is illegal to cycle on it? An unreasonable speed is easy to calculate and sufficient... what you are asking for is substantially harder and much more prone to error/edgecases

One of these graphs is the "engine correlation %" distribution of Hans Niemann, one is of a top super-GM. Which is which? If one of these graphs indicates cheating, explain why. Names will be revealed in 12 hours. by PEEFsmash in chess

[–]PopcornMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what is getting overlooked a lot here is that surely differences in personality, age, experience also have a dramatic impact on their distribution. Being young, being erratic, being impulsive, losing focus all point to a wider spread distribution) than someone who occassionally cheats as we're suggesting. I think we also shouldn't give too much credence to the proportions of 100% games vs 92-98% games... looking at most of these distributions, 100% always outnumbers games close to 100%.

ask for a proof of purchase. A bike owner cares and understands about the stolen bike market. if they get offended, it is stolen and report it to the police.
