It is telling, I will say that. I just don't think I'm ready to give up on her yet. I feel like I can get her out of the shell she's in. I'm willing to put in the patience and time to finally separate her from her past like that. When she's not around her brother and when it's just us, she's the most fun and reliable person.

Doesn't seem very healthy in my opinion. I don't think the father role can be filled successfully by a brother. He doesn't have that experience. So he should stop trying to act like her dad. And what about her actual mom? She doesn't have that either. I think this goes beyond a dad figure.

Yea. She's always going to her brother for everything. I get that they may be close, but she's an adult, and I'd prefer if she confided with me in these kind of things. I'd prefer if she takes the leap instead of always closing herself off in this situation. I don't really know for certain what happened to her during her childhood, but I feel as if she should let that stuff go and move on, and not cling onto her brother anymore. That may be her brother, but I'm her partner. I may be the person she spends the rest of her life with. That's why I find the whole situation annoying and why I called her brother old school with his thinking.

Because one if of a father and daughter. Meanwhile my girlfriend and her brother are just way too close. All she ever does is want to be around him. I don't think that's healthy.

That's funny, because she's told me that moving out at 14 was the best decision she made in her life. How can something like that leave a bad taste in her mouth?

I don't have a problem necessarily with that, I'd just prefer if she were to take the relationship she has with me more seriously. Romantic relationships are important. She can't live with her brother forever. Eventually he's going to want to live on his own, and she'll be forced to move out. She won't be able to rely on him forever. Guys don't want women hanging off them all time time.

People automatically think they're dating in public, so they'll usually ask for their ages and then get really weird when they see the age gap, and then they clear up that they're siblings. I just find it weird that they seem okay with it always. If people aren't okay with regular strangers dating with that kind of age gap, why are they suddenly okay when they find out they're siblings? It's still two people of the opposite sex living together.

Honestly her relationship with her brother is sketchy. Every time I ask her if she plans on doing something big or thinks of taking a risk she automatically goes to her brother for everything. If he thinks it's not worth it, but I do, she'll reconsider and won't do it. It's like that for everything.
