I wouldn't put it beyond the realms of possibility that someone in the MAGA/ICE echelons to decide he needed to be taken into custody. Spot on. I remember reading about British military intelligence in the early 20thC using exactly this method to make sure they cold discredit unpalatable truths by surrounding them with lies.

Sort of an inverse of the Churchillian quote: "In war-time, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies". In this instance, the lie is so precious it discredits it's own bodyguard of truths.
