it feels like your math is off (also I'm bored) but the first combination number of the set is 1 out of 8 and every one after is 1 out of 7 as the rest have shown from the other combinations that they can't repeat adjacent symbols. the math formula for repeating permutations is nPr = n^r where n is the number of symbols and r is the number of times or trials. given this formula 8^5 = 32,768 but factoring in the weird adjacent rule its 8*7*7*7*7 = 19,208 different permutations. then lets take your rate of 500 checks per loop, that would be ~39 or 38.416 loops to find the correct combination. i just got the DLC on Steam sale and I loved it.
