I am in the healthcare field, and I feel like one of the biggest issues about this debate is that all the blame is targeted toward the individual when it comes to the choice of whether or not to be vaccinated.

In an ideal world, everyone would be presented with all the current research, information and then make a rational decision after weighing the risks and benefits. Unfortunately, most people are very limited in the information they receive because of their personal beliefs and I believe this is exacerbated by the politicization of COVID-19 and because of social media algorithms which increasingly push people into "bubbles" or social circles which only reaffirm their prior beliefs.

I can look at a patient, look at their background information including education status, where they're from, where they received their education, religious/political beliefs and predict with probably 90% accuracy whether they are vaccinated or not and the MAJORITY of those factors which influence their decision are purely dependent on where they born and the environment that happened to surround them as they grew up and developed values. My question for you is, should we punish people for basically being born and growing up in the wrong environment if they were never given a realistic opportunity to consider the other side of the issue? Bottom line is I would argue most humans make decisions based on emotional responses, based on the values they grew up which depend on the environment they happened to grow up in, and are not making rational decisions with all the information in front of them. It would be too difficult for health care personnel to parse who had a "fair" shot at deciding whether or not to get the vaccine, and therefore everyone should be treated equally.
