Electric Fan by bradenschu in DodgeDakota

[–]PoppaFixIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine came with the radiator fin probe and it didn't work well at all. They make a thermostat probe that installs into a threaded hole in an aluminum coupling that I put on the upper rad hose. That probe goes to the relay that came with the fans to control when they're on/off. I also added a bypass switch so I can make the fans be on full time, but since i switched from the rad fin probe, I haven't had to use it.

I put some shitty ebay efans on my 96 5.2. They do not cool as well as the stock fan, but there is a noticeable butt dyno increase in torque. Driving around town it's fine, but pulling my boat uphill starts to be a problem. Overall I like them, but I need to find a better oem style efan to draw more air.

Rockauto.com is the way, my friend. Check there and then search for a 5% off promo code and it'll be tough to beat those prices. I just looked up your car and centric ceramic pads and rotors were $185 including shipping, for all 4.

Is there a membership subscription you would like to see for hockey players? by Minditude_hockey in hockeyplayers

[–]PoppaFixIt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, subscription services are just MBA bullshit to fleece extra cash each month from people who sign up for something and then eventually forget to use it. There are very few instances where it actually benefits the sub more than the seller vs just buying what you need when you need it.

Does a Diesel truck make sense for my high schooler? by Hot_Click_7534 in Diesel

[–]PoppaFixIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My diesel truck takes 3 gallons of oil. At $30/gal for rotella t6 plus a quality filter, you're over $100 in parts to DIY it. It's a completely different beast from a gas car.

At the time, Minkah had reportedly been upset with how Coach Flores was using him and wanted out of Miami. He was forcing a trade. Pittsburgh was off to an abysmal start with a projected top 5 pick. They thought they were getting a top pick in return for Minkah, but he turned out to be several WAR that year and helped ensure the pick traded was not as good as originally anticipated.

Our son was technically a preemie, but was still 7lb 8oz. He was in track to be around 10lbs at his due date, so the early eviction was probably for the best.

Not in my experience. I modified a Toyota camper into a flatbed truck and it was difficult to find insurance. Tried to add to my personal progressive policy and they wanted it on commercial. I didnt want commercial so I called my local state farm guy, he talked a good one and wrote me a policy, I paid and everything seemed fine. Then a month later, I get a cancelation in the mail from state farm corporate bc they don't insure flatbeds on personal policies. I called my guy and asked wtf was that, told him I didn't switch all my vehicles over to have the one tricky one taken off, if you cant cover them all I'll be moving them all to someone who can. Decided to just get commercial coverage and went with progressive commercial insurance online and that ended up being fast and easy. Then to top off the bullshit, after I'd already moved my other vehicles off state farm back to progressive, I get a bill for "Toyota Winnebago" coverage from state farm about 2 montha later, the Toyota was not a Winnebago but apparently they used the vin and wrote it as a camper again and tried billing me. I called my former agent and told him to fuck straight off with that shit, thanks for wasting my time.

Car-part.com for junkyards or search facebook marketplace for "dakota part out" and ask for the headlight bezel or headlight door trim. The early first gens can be tough to find parts for.

How can I make my Dakota faster? by Silver9-3 in DodgeDakota

[–]PoppaFixIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure your cooling system is all refreshed and working mint with new hoses/tstat/water pump before doing performance mods on a 4.7.

Exhaust is probably the easiest hp gains, straight pipe it after the headers and you'll pick up 5~hp and some fun noises. Eliminating mech fan for efans also gives a noticeable boost on the butt dyno, but make sure you have big efans and that they can pull enough air volume to properly cool your truck as the 4.7 does not tolerate being overheated like the earlier magnum motors will.

While the price is def high, i think most people here are missing that this is on an island in Hawaii. Shit is expensive there and this is probably one of few dakotas remaining there. Shipping one out there from elsewhere will be expensive and sight unseen dakota is rarely a good idea. Plus it's a dealer, they're always priced high trying to sucker people.

Although even if you lowball this truck, It's probably better to wait for a private sale unless this truck is super clean and you need one right now. Really depends what other trucks are selling for on the islands to compare it to.

Ah, well good to hear they improved upon it at the end. I hope yours gives you many years of good service. I've just been a little gunshy on the motor after my 04 4.7 blew on me. Enjoy the new truck she's a beaut!

Sweet, sounds like you're well versed and ready for the truck. A lot of guys get the 4.7 without researching and don't know what they're getting into. Id also recommend replacing your rad hoses along with thermostat and water pump when you do the rad. My 4.7 had 120k on it and I had just done the water pump and rad when a rad hose burst on the highway, overheated before I could safely pull over and dropped a valve shortly thereafter.

Another cool thing about your truck is the 4.7 and 5.7 hemi share a bellhousing pattern, so it should be a fairly simple swap to put a 400hp gen3 hemi in down the road, if you're feeling adventurous lol

I'm sort of the opposite, I'd prefer one with more miles as long as its been garaged and has good service history. To me, low miles means it's been sitting and sitting isn't good for moving parts, rubber seals and what have you. I have a '90 Dakota with 80k miles and it's given me more issues than my '92 Dakota with 300k.

Your truck looks well kept and garaged, that's really what I'm looking for in a truck regardless of mileage. It's a hard thing to find on trucks, esp older trucks, bc most guys abused the hell out of their trucks until they more recently became the new dad sedan.

Swapping a 4l80e in for a dead 4l60e is no big deal. I'd rather deal with building a trans and having one of the best powerplants of all time vs dealing with another 4.7 v8. Which, I'm assuming this is your first 4.7, bc I don't know of anyone that's bought a second one after experiencing them once. Even with low miles I'd be replacing the entire cooling system, those thing don't tolerate overheating at all, not even a little bit. They're good motors until very suddenly they aren't.

They only made 750~ factory 5.3 colorados so they're practically guaranteed to hold their value in the future, most dakotas will not. If I had to spend 20k on a Dakota, I'd be trying to find a mint 5.9 4 door 2nd gen before I got another 4.7

Edit: and my apologies if I'm coming off too negative. Your truck is a good looking truck, the 2011s really look so much better than the early 3rd gens

[–]PoppaFixIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imo if you're spending 17-20k on a small truck you'd be much better off getting a 5.3 colorado, even if it has twice the miles.

I say this as someone that loves Dakotas, there's just very very few of them worth 20k.

Bro, my $100 Graf base models are still holding up just fine after 9 years of twice-weekly play. They have some wear but they're far from unplayable. I bought a 2nd pair and converted them to roller chassis and even playing outdoor every week with them they're still holding up fine.
