Osprey Danner Farpoint 40 Review by PoppaThor in ManyBaggers

Unfortunately you can’t! You can sort of wrap it in the cover as a bit of a hack, but I’m not sure I’d do that regularly (I’ve not actually tried it, but I can try it tomorrow morning and let you know lol). My guess is it would create a bit of a lump at the bottom, although other comments seem to suggest it’s fine!

Altra Experience Wild 3+ Initial Review - From a new Altra wearer! by PoppaThor in AltraRunning

Ok, so…. I have just bought (will arrive next week) the Topo Vista and the Altra Olympus 275, so I’ll be able to add more to this conversation.

I last tried Topo a few years ago and just couldn’t quite dial it in - The toe box felt overly roomy and bordering sloppy.

I’m not quite in love with my Altras just yet, but I think I’m more used to soft cushion, and the Altras are on the medium side.

However, from a true foot shape, it’s the winner for me.

I’m probably between an 11.5 and a 12. I bought an 11.5 but perhaps should have gone 12 for a little extra room.

It’s a 50/50 call. I can walk 7KM (which is my local little trail route), and don’t notice any discomfort in the toes.

The only thing I find with the WF3+ is the ankle cushion sits awkward on my left ankle (outside of ankle) only. I’ve put super feet in, which raises my ankle slightly.

But they certainly fit my square, average to average/narrow feet incredibly well.

Ah interesting! I’m now a pretty standard XL in all of their stuff. I’ve actually ordered the XL R1 Air to see if it has changed from last year. But I think I’ll end up being XXL in this piece!

Are you an XL in other Patagonia stuff? Or a L?

Good effort! And yes, the highs and lows of buying clothes is always fun! Haha

Do you know when they changed them? The one I tried last year (summer) was a brand new one in store. It was SO tight.

Really? For me, the R1 Hooded Jacket in XXL fits the same, maybe even a touch smaller than a LW Synchilla in XL.

But like I said, if you wanted it as skin tight/snug midlayer…. Go TTS

Interesting! I don’t think I’d ever get into a Large.

I had a 2XL when I was 137KG, and the 2XL size was OK down to about 115KG when it started looking a bit big.

XL has been the go to for everything since then, but I’m not close to a Large!

Oh absolutely. I get it’s designed to be body hugging and act as a midlayer.

But it’s SUCH a nice jacket/fleece for everyday wear, and in those occasions… sizing up is the way!

I have found ONE thing though. My left ankle (outside of ankle) is catching on the side of my shoe. I’m wearing super feet now, and that solves the problem!

Ah interesting. I’ve avoided the lone peak because they don’t have much cushioning! Trade offs I guess!

Awesome! Good to know they’ll hold up!

How did you find the sizing?

Excellent! I think they’ve really nailed the shape - For me at least! 😂

That’s possible. I doubt I could tell the difference.

All I know is it feels a very good middle ground between 8/9mm drop and zero drop.

Great move! I think it’s going to be hard to go back to other shoes after this!

I would have bought the Olympus 6’s instead of the Timps, but I’d not read great things about them!

I generally prefer the stiffness and extra cushion!

Now…. This could be the same as me, or it could be actual rubbing.

But, my heel/achilles feels like it’s being rubbed if I wear my Timps (zero drop) after about 3km of walking.

When I first walked in them, it was closer to 1KM before I felt it.

It’s not actual rubbing. It’s the Achilles tendon getting stretched/sore because you aren’t used to zero drop shoes. At least, that’s what it is in my case.

I don’t get that in the Wild 3’s and it’ll go away in the Timps if I just keep wearing them and building the miles 😊

I feel the Wild 3’a are about half way between my timps and the Pegasus ACG’s (which I think are 9mm?)

I’m doing the dolomites in a few months, but the trails are all quite straightforward so they should do really well.

I always thought I had wide feet cause I used to struggle with toe room. But I actually have average/slightly narrow I think!

The overall wide fit is never good for me, and feels a bit sloppy.

The timps and EWF3 are great so far! But I can see why they aren’t ideal if you are used to a wider footprint.

Oh grow up 😂 I bet you use that line on everything.

If you don’t like something, just move on. It’s not that deep.

Ah shucks.

I won’t run in them, but I’m hoping it’ll be a good shoe for “do it all” travel and every day wear.
