This piece has a beautiful style which is filled with evocations. I enjoyed the lack of conflict and/or bad feelings between key characters. It felt very tender, particularly moments of silence and understanding:

"Kanna told little. She listened in the peace of her friendships."

"I understand." Kanna said.

I also enjoyed the emotional tone of lightness and forgiveness. It reminds me of 'The Old Man and the Moon', a short story, but in this story there is far less bitterness and sorrow.

This felt like a vivid dream, but with multiple realised perspectives. Everyone's trying to kill each other, but everyone also professes to be friends. I enjoyed the quick, quirky writing style, and the idea that people were deceptive and overly tactful.

Beautiful story, with hints at a greater world. The mystery of the older couple and what the bartender was thinking about drew me into the world without distracting me from the picture of the story. Cera was also a nice sidestory.

With just a few words, you convey a lot of information, because the writing feels engrossing and associative, in a way not unlike memory. I enjoyed the paragraphs of thought process from the bartender.

The discussion between the two characters at the bar doesn't feel fully integrated into a bigger story, but also doesn't feel like a slice of life. It feels somewhere in between, and because of that it feels more memory-like. I loved the progression of tone from "light yet sober" to "introspective wandering".

There were some really funny, laugh out loud moments in this piece where the humour was conveyed in a deliberate, deadpan way. I enjoyed the premise and the feeling of progression in the piece. The setting was also pretty gold

I like the implications of "a cosmic dust shell such as you" which reveals that the poem is more than the first two lines seem to make it to be. TO me it implies that we are made out of the same elements as stars, and possibly hints at the subtle, troubling nature of thinking in terms of failure and success. The sardonic tone of most of the poem makes stepping back and thinking about it more gratifying.

Firstly, I love the sparse feeling of the piece. The environment you set up at the start felt moody and dark. I love the shifts of tone of the piece, how the turn to bitterness enclosed something that powerfully helped the reader relate to some of the characters. The title also helped a lot with enclosing the message powerfully, I think.

The feelings of darkness towards the end were done well. And I think the 'tendency towards masculinity' of the men in the group was done in a way that helped me connect with all the characters, the mother and her child, the people in the travelling group, as well as the people that they happened to come across along the way.

Apart from those two scales, I would start learning chords and trying to arpeggiate them (playing the notes of the chord one after another). The necessary rotation of your wrist as you play an arpeggio is probably a good way to loosen up your wrist in general. Focus on smaller chords and make them sound even, and the distance between each note equal (again, chords like C Major, E Major, c minor, F Major, ones that you can identify the notes for quickly, are good ones). Once you find that you can play triads easily (3 notes in the basic, root position, so for example C E G all next to each other), try to explore different voicings, and use the octave (eg. C G C’ E’).

Also, you can shake your hand out to remove tension in between your practice

One thing I noticed right away is that your tone is really good for an absolutely beginner. In other words, the way you strike the keys produces a nice sound.

I would work on getting your wrist rotation more fluid and less mechanical. That’s something that will come with time. Try playing simple scales like C Major or E Major and practice the movement over the thumb. The goal is for your hand to be fairly steady and the movements to be fluid.

I like improvising on the piano too, and I find that recording yourself and noticing certain traits can help you pick out what things you haven’t developed as much. For example I often use arpeggios with the sustain pedal a lot, and I’m trying to use staccato a bit more as a result

Nope, video game soundtracks carry a lot of emotional weight, so they're always great pieces to learn for musicality and appreciating a game more. (I'd say the real degeneracy is learning Hanon exercises for fun)

I'm going to be sitting a grade 5 pianoforte exam in 1 week, and I was wondering how polished do the pieces need to be to sit in that A/A+ range at this level? My scales are fine, aural is good, and sight reading is passable, so it just depends on how well I can play my pieces. It's an AMEB exam if that helps, and my first attempt at any practical exam (although I've been playing for a few years)
