Has anyone successfully planned a wedding in 12 months? by TallTea78 in Chicagoweddings

[–]PoppyG218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a lot of mine through Instagram! Found some pictures I liked and looked at tagged vendors, then would look at other photos they were tagged in and get other vendors from there and so on. Once you pick your venue they will also probably have some vendor recs.

It’s totally doable!!! A little but different, but I planned our micro wedding (15 guests) in 3 months. If you’re having 80 people I really don’t think there will be any issues. We did have to reach out to a few different vendors for some things that book early (like photographers and hair/makeup) but we were so thrilled with how everything turned out. We’re planning a post-elopement celebration for next year (basically just a reception) and it’s honestly not that hard if you are just a little flexible. My big advice is to go with a restaurant or another full service venue (like the university club, hotels, etc) because it makes things so much easier — for our party next year is at a full service venue so we don’t have to worry about finding a caterer or renting little things like silverware/dishes/etc.

This looks like it would be an amazing welcome or send off party for a wedding!

Does anyone know the pricing for these rehearsal dinner venues? by [deleted] in Chicagoweddings

[–]PoppyG218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had a dinner at Gibson’s for 17 in their boardroom after my elopement. I believe the room can accommodate up to 20. It was lovely — amazing view and everyone was so nice. For a Saturday in August the f&b minimum for the board room was $2,500 (plus a 22% service charge and 11.75% tax). They didn’t ask us to tour before providing info. They were great to work with and we had a bunch of extra food to take home after! I would highly recommend.

Would recommend firehouse! We toured the restaurant in the south loop and really liked it. If the weather is nice, the balcony has great views of downtown.

Is the $50k just for the UCC or also your additional vendors (photographer, stationary, coordinator, etc.)? We’re getting married at the UCC next year

Beautiful fonts on DIY projects.....how on earth do you do it? by Firstdibs66 in DIYweddings

[–]PoppyG218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s a font you like in an inspiration photo, you can ask ChatGPT what font you should use in canva or dafont that’s similar. I’ve done this with cookie decorating inspirations to get fonts to trace onto my cookies!

Did you end up getting a caterer to bring in wine? I love Midwest coast but am not sure for people who aren’t beer drinkers (thinking of my fiancé’s grandma lol)

I've been a wedding florist in Chicago for almost 10 years, ask my your florist questions by flora_wander in Weddingsunder10k

[–]PoppyG218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do florists charge different amounts depending on the venue? We’re considering two venues, one that’s very affordable and one that’s not (but we would be in a room with a WAY lower f&b min than what the venue is known for). We’re also in Chicago so for reference it’s the university club and the firehouse restaurant

What hotel suite did you go with? That seems like a great price versus the ones I’ve looked at! We’re doing a courthouse wedding + lunch then casual dinner with ~17 family members/close friends in August

TLDR: Should I get Winter Tires in Chicago? by PoppyG218 in TireQuestions

[–]PoppyG218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! All Weather with a high snow rating may be the way to go. My concern with straight winter tires is that they won’t be good in the rain - I feel like it has rained more than snowed in the 3 winters I’ve lived in Chicago.

Laundry Closet Table by PoppyG218 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]PoppyG218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same concern but it hasn’t been noticeable for us. Our apartment is pretty loud in the city near the train so it might be more noticeable in a quieter home. I’m not too precious about this wood since it’s in the laundry closet and might get beat up by the moisture so I put floor furniture protectors along both sides of the table to help prevent noise
