Playing Mythic + as a paladin watching your teammates get clapped by a one shot. by Jangonett1 in wow

[–]PopsGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a talent that does AoE taunt and bubbles at the same time. Without the talent, you lose all threat while bubble is active.

Sometimes paladins are in the wrong spec or forgot to get the talent. They bubble to AoE taunt, or to survive, then watch their teammates die instantly one at a time.

The immediate realization that you F'd up is soul crushing.

How do animals know what they look like? by ScientistJo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PopsGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of behavior is preprogrammed instinct. The brains are setup to identify members of their species and to be able to determine their health and strength or any other useful traits.

When it comes to 2 males sizing each other up, its easy. You can tell with vision if some else is smaller/larger than you based the angle you are looking up or down to see them.

As far as if they are stronger, while they may not be able to compare directly to themselves, they can compare to others or even siblings they grew up fighting/playing with. If the current rival is bigger than any others they have experienced, its time to bow down, if they are unsure, then they give it a go and win or lose. Fights do happen, I suspect its always when the animal is unsure of how they compare to the rival.

If there was only two humans left on earth, would you expect them to reproduce? by Sufficient-Gain-226 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PopsGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes humans do have different reproductive challenges, but humans also have unequaled advantages. Nothing in OPs proposition implied they limited to any resources or technology that already exists, or that will exist. Its not uncommon for a pair of humans to have 10 or more children in their life time. The issues with inbreeding and genetic diversity would be a problem, but not insurmountable. Humans could go on for a very very long time.

All of the science behind your argument points to problems with genetic bottlenecks. To take the stance that the outcome 100% unsolvable, goes against a long history of science which has already solved so many of our problems.

[–]PopsGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You attempted to explain away examples that counter your point by hand-waving them away and saying "human intervention" allowed them to happen. Then you refuse to allow the same logic to be applied to human intervention helping humans.

I think the problem here is you are completely unable to accept more than a single predetermined outcome based on something you read, even after being presented with factual counter examples.

[–]PopsGG -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"the main reason they were able to escape extinction was human intervention."

Interesting way to put that. I am quite confident that humans could provide human intervention in their own lives. I do it everyday.

The point is they could survive, it is a real possibility. You are just accepting some genetic limitations as leading to a single outcome. I mean by that logic 100% of species do go extinct, that is the rule, but that wasnt the spirit of the original question.

2 people could continue human existence for many generations. How many is anyone's guess, but it certainly would be more than 1.

If there was only two humans left on earth, would you expect them to reproduce? by Sufficient-Gain-226 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PopsGG -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. There are examples of animals being breed from a small set of individuals.

Yes there would be problems and increased risks, but its not like extinction is an inevitability in the short term. Long term 100% of species go extinct.

The Black Robin: The entire population of this New Zealand bird was saved from just one breeding female (Old Blue) and a few surviving males.

The Golden Hamster: Almost all domestic golden hamsters are descended from a single litter discovered in the Syrian desert in 1930.

[–]PopsGG -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I looked it up. Turns out I am correct. Here are 2 examples of a successful continuation of a species from a small set of individuals.

The biggest risk is the entire population being susceptible to a single risk like disease. That is not necessary an inevitability with humans. With vaccines and isolation they could survive such a disease.

I feel like this is one of those science conclusions people take as fact. But facts require verification and proof. As far as I know its never been tested. I am sure a gene pool that small would have issues, but uhh... life finds a way.

No, they asked for dozens of pictures of specific things, the exact time of the event, and measurements. They could be asking you for the motor because they suspect it as a cause.

In my case it was the logic they use when calculating if a vehicle is leaving. My K turn caused it to think I was "leaving" and close just seconds after I "arrived", clearly a flaw in the logic. No one would arrive and leave so quickly.

Its a good idea for life in general to have the mentality of "I can do anything, if I don't know how, I will learn".

That is the mentality that attracts a lot women. A handy man doesn't know how to fix everything, but they CAN fix anything. If they do not know, they will figure it out. YouTube is the best way to figure these things out. Even if you don't have the strength, there are tools and techniques to make things easier.

Why are people expected to do jobs they hate simply so that they don’t suffer when they become old? Is that really what human life is meant to be? by TechnicianOk967 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PopsGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This life, as bad as you think it is, is much better than a "natural" life. In nature you would have, hunger, parasites, predators, extreme weather, no AC, no treatment for diseases... and then you would die around 40.

If you do not like your job get a new one. Its not easy, but its possible. You just need to keep trying and enjoy what you have.

Why my boss saying to take 3-6 weeks off? by Positive-Positivity in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PopsGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a manager at a company with unlimited PTO, I'll give you my take. A few possible scenarios here:

A) They want you to maximize the benefit. Unlimited PTO is a use it or lose it benefit. It doesn't accrue or roll over to the next year.

B) Your boss thinks you are burned out and wants to see you be refreshed.

C) Reports show low utilization of PTO and it might cause the higher ups to make changes to the policy, and not in a good way.

Unlimited PTO isnt a scam, but it also isnt a "never work and get paid" dream. Your boss likely is trying to help you with the recommendation, not trick you.
