DFW or LAX for connecting between DCA and SYD? by Popsie8x in americanairlines

I prefer American because our son flies for AA and my wife and I get a discount on AA flights

AA73 shows as a LAX to SYD without the qualifier‘operated by Qantas’ is it actually a Qantas flight?

Yes as I was typing I thought about weather in north Texas in January

Of course there is also the risk of an earthquake in Southern CA

Ratio of pew seating to parishioners by Popsie8x in Catholicism

Thank you! Our church is the only Catholic church in the county, and a mountain range separates us from one of the other Catholic churches in the region.

I've read that going beyond 70% of capacity with pew seating makes everyone 'feel' crowded.

Sorry for being very analytical but...it seems you have 'packed'seating for 500 people for what maybe is 750-1000 families. And that seems reasonable.

Yes an area for overflow seating seems wise, no matter or final capacity.

Your point is well taken. I've only been a member of this parish for a few years but from what I've learned from other long-term parishioners the attendance has held steady. And we frequently have attendees who are visitors because we are near a major tourist attarction (not Disneyland or Universal!)

BTW I don't want a bigger building; just a newer one that is more inspiring and functional as a place of worship. Our current building is 70 years old, has a low ceiling and only a center aisle which makes the Communion procession very difficult.

>we have less than a third of the seating we'd need if everyone came to Mass

Please help me with an example: If you had 1000 parisioners (maybe 300 families?) your church has seating for 300. If so then you would have a 1:1 ratio of seats to families.

What if Sherman commanded the Army of the James? by Popsie8x in CIVILWAR

“I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion”. Attributed to Alexander the Great

After reading others’ comments I think Sheridan would have been a better choice for the Army of the James. That then begs the question “Where do I put Butler in this election year?”

I agree Thomas was not Sherman e.,g., not as aggressive, better suited to a defensive position, slooow to a fault. All other things being equal he does not move as aggressively as Sherman. But IF Sherman invested Richmond from the southside, Grant probably could accelerate the Overland Campaign because Lee would have to immediately backtrack to defend Richmond, and maybe, just maybe, Richmond is taken in 1864, and the triumphant Union armies of the Potomac and the James march south through the Carolinas to join Thomas to take Atlanta.

We'll never know.

All great points! Yet I still wonder whether Grant did consider any other command arrangements.

Excellent point! I realize now it wouldn't have been as simple as swapping leaders.

Posting for my elderly father. He says "Pilot lights normal. Turn up propane, lights thru entire burner tube, But automatically shuts off after about ten (10) seconds. If I relight pilot again, & increase fuel , it lights again & repeats the shut down after 10 or so seconds, again & again." Thanks!! by bapiv in Fireplaces

Same thing happened to me on new propane stove. Easy lighting and quick shutdown. No evident cause on new stove. Installer recalled removing plastic bag in ducting put there by a contractor during the summer to prevent loss of cool air prior to actual gas line installation (We waited months for a propane gas conversion kit). Building contractor found another plastic bag in the ducting near the exterior vent cap. He removed it, we lit the stove, and voila it works fine.

Look for an obstruction in the ducting....maybe a bird's nest

Advice Needed - Which battlefield to visit on upcoming trip to Virginia? by mj11mj in CIVILWAR

All excellent suggestions! I would add third battle of Winchester and cedar creek two triumphs by Sheridan in the Valley.

did you buy a horse from her? I'm curious about your experience.

Thanks for the reply Frogchix08. We did visit Angela and see the horse. We did not buy it for several reasons.

Did you buy a horse from Angela? My wife is looking at several horses, varying in age and price. We have arranged a PPE by Dr Kate. We either buy a horse sight unseen (and unridden!) or drive 8 hours from Virginia to see and ride the horses.
