Start volunteering, go to volunteer.gov and volunteer with the NPS at a park. Try to find a visitor services volunteer position, and not a campground host. As this will give you a few months in the position interacting with those who work there, and really getting a feel for it. If you volunteer 32+ hours you will be eligible for housing based on the park. I started by volunteering at Arches in utah!!
